Tree branch took out Driver's mirror

'97 Holiday Rambler with Velvac mirrors. We were camped in a New Mexico State Park when a micro-burst hit (a really really bad thunderstorm for those who don't live in the Southwest). Tree branch fell and damaged the driver's mirror which now has to be replaced. New mirror is being shipped from Velvac. How to replace? Took the inside cover/trim off the wall next to the driver's seat/window thinking I would have direct access to the outside wall the mirror is mounted to but there was a second solid wall. Anyone have info about Removing & Replacing the Driver's mirror on a '97 Holiday Ramble Endeavor? Do I cut a hole in the wall behind the trim?

Thanks,

"rocmoc"....Why don't you wait for the new mirror assembly to arrive and then you can see how it comes apart.

Typically, they use long hex head wood screws to secure the old mirror base. They back the fiberglass with a block of wood and thread the screws through the fiberglass into the wood. On an older coach, they might not tighten up when reinserted. You might want to add something to make the old screws grip when you reinstall, like fiberglass resin, epoxy or some other adhesive.

Hopefully your screws will seat tightly. I had to remount mine and the wood had some water damage and the screws were difficult to tighten. I tried bigger screws, lagbolts, etc and finally had to run bolts all the way through with a backer plate. Not pretty but it holds tight now.

Thanks both of you. Didn't know if there was a backing plate or nuts on the back of the mounting screws.

Thanks again,

I also had to replace and did from outside. Real easy.

Look on the outside. Remove 4 plastic hole plugs... screws are there... Remove screws...mount comes off...undo electric plug. Install new unit.

(All done from outside)

Been there done that.

Good luck
