Water in Air Filter

Here is a new one on me. On the way home from a short trip I pulled away from a traffic light, the motor spit and sputtered and the check engine light came on, it did not flash so I knew it was nothing that I needed to get real worried as it happened back when the coach was new. That time I had it checked and they found no problem. Now in the past I have had plug wire troubles, so just figured I had a bad wire. When I reached home I checked every thing I could think of and then re-set the engine light. Then I took it to the garage to have my plug wires checked and all wires checked out good. so the man put that meter on and it said "Air Flow Problem". He checked the Air breather filter and it was about half full of water.
Now this is on a 06 Winnebago Adventurer gasser. The air filter sits down in the wheel well right in front of the right front wheel. But I have not driven in any rain storms or sprayed the front of the coach except to clean the windshield. I just can't understand how the water got in there. The filter was pretty clean as I had put a new one in about 4000 miles ago. Any one had this problem ???

I did the rubber bulb type weatherstrip, I measured the thickness of the "hood" then placed the strip back that far. My weather strip had the sickie side also, bought it at Auto Zone. No more wet air filter.

Thanks a bunch, will give it a try

where did you put the weather strip. I tried to place some thin stripping at the top of the hood opening. But when I try to close the hood it just tears the stripping off.

I have a Georgetown 2003 with the 8.1 engin. One of my first trip out i had water to soak my air filter. I put weather strip in the hood opening. Since then i have not had a problem. Wether strip was 1/4 inch thick and 1 inch wide.with a sticky side to it.

There is a cap you can put on the air intake to prevent water from getiing in. I think it become standard to the 07 workhorse. My 04 didn't have it. My 07 does. Order one from your Winnebago dealer. That is what my friend had to do.

Check your hood gaskets, if there are any. If no gaskets, install weather strip foam to minimize water intake.
I fixed mine permanently by cutting the plastic air horn assembly right below the curve, turning the horn 180 degrees to face towards the radiator, and attaching it again. I used metal strips and sheet metal screws to hold it together and then sealed it with aluminum duct tape. This has worked for several years and no problems from driving in heavy rain. Cost.....ZERO.

The adventurer is one of several that have had water ingestion issues. The cause is believed to be the design of the front cap, which allowes water to be drawn into the airhorn and filter of the 8.1L engine.

I would suspect that it is a Workhorse chassis that has the intake horn right in front of the radiator, left side, when looking under the hood. It can get water in it from any water that got in from the front when the coach was being washed or from rain. Obviously if you had water in the air box, the coach was exposed to water at some point when it got in to the air intake opening. I doubt if it came from the windshield washers because the volume just is not there.
Some coaches, because their front end was not designed according to the chassis manufacturer, do suffer from rain intake during a heavy storm.

What chassis? I know that at least one gas chassis maker has a service bulletin to correct this.
