Which RV choose

In first, happy new year to you.
Then, sorry for my bad English.

I have a truck camper in France, but now my new project is to buy a RV class C in USA to have a rv when I come in your country.
I know some one in Fort Myers FL where the vehicule can be parked for the year, may be I will rent it to some friends.
I need too his adress for the insurance.

Here is my project, but now, I need somme help to choose the RV, we are 2 people, so what size is good for us, whitch engine, whitch brand, Ford or Chevy...???

My budget is about 24000$

Congratulations on your purchase,I am sure that you will have a great time in it and it being on a Chevy Chassis it will give you more room in the cockpit area and a better ride, not to mention not having to worry about the handling problems that plague the ones on a Ford Chassis.

Insurance doesn't go by length but uses value for pricing. My 38' Newmar insurance is very close to my '95 Roadtrek of 19' because of value. In Michigan I can take most of the insurance off when it is stored. I only leave on the comprehensive when stored so it is covered in case of fire or theft. That saves a lot with my insurance co. You do have to shop for insurance to get a good price.

Whatever you buy I would make sure to have someone, either private or business, to check out the MH prior to purchase. Many Class Cs have leaks in the roof that allow water to get into the walls and cause delamination. That is where the water has dissolved the glue that holds all things together in the walls. Usually that makes for repairs that cost more than the motorhome is worth. You may get a place that takes RVs for rent to take yours for a rental but they usually want new ones to rent.

As for the size, the smaller ones most times have a corner bed,which may be fine for you.

The high mileage is not a problem if it has been well maintained and documented.I would be weary of one that is old and has low mileage,that means it has sat a lot and these things must be used.

As for buying from a rental agency it is a real good deal,they have to keep up the maintenance on them and keep a record of it and you will get it when you buy one.

You can do some "light" reading about them in the Clicky in my signature. You can see what you get as far as records and tires and such, they are ready to go with out having to put money into them to get them road worthy. They also come with a warranty.

The mileage between the sizes is not much different. Many people tow behind small RVs without a problem.

It would help to know more about how long you will keep the RV and how you intend to use it. If you intend to use the RV to live in, while working, or whether you intended to tour the US and camp in the RV along the way, let us know. It is possibe to buy a fairly nice used 27 foot long Class C motorhome for $24,000 but you may have to spend considerably more on new tires, brakes, engine cooling system, and upgrades/repairs to make it fully safe to drive, reliable and comfortable with working air conditioning, furnace, generator, awning, etc. Most RV's use the same brands of appliances, air conditioners, furnaces, refrigerators, etc. These items often need expensive repairs at around 10 years of age in normal use.Tires that are older than 5 years old may be unsafe and need replacement regardless of appearance or tread depth to effects of sun and weather and just sitting parked. Take your time and learn as much as you can before buying any RV.

Hi. You asked, how much room? For 2 people, 24 feet long would work OK. If you need more room, 26 to 28 feet would provide ample room. I would avoid anything longer unless you plan on taking many things with you on the trip. Smaller RVs will more easily park in remote campgrounds, and are easier to drive through cities and towns. Parking and gassing the RV is also a bit easier in a shorter RV.

Which brand of chassis Ford or Chevy might depend on some of your physical attributes. Chevy is reported to be better for tall or big individuals because the cab area is roomier. The Chevy is reported to get better gas mileage than the Ford. The Ford has a very powerful and durable engine which allows it to climb hills without much difficulty. Both Ford and Chevy produce very reliable chassis, so you shouldn't go wrong with either with lower miles on the odometer.

Unless you have a strong reason for choosing an RV based on the chassis, I would look more closely at the construction and floor plan of the living space. I would suggest avoiding a rubber roof. Make sure the sleeping area(s) will meet your needs (size and layout), and check the bathroom and the shower. Make sure the generator runs well (if equipped), and all appliances work as they should.
