This is the Cab Chassis variant of the IVECO Van( Not sold in NA), it has a 3 litre Diesel smaller than the 3.6 Gas engine in the Promaster

In Mexico, the Ducato (yes, the restyled Ducato that the rest of the world gets, but not the US), is a diesel, only a diesel, and only a six speed manual transmission.

I wonder if the fact that Sprinters only come in diesels will drag fleets kicking and screaming to the "dark side", where gassers become more of an exception than a norm.

I very much doubt, they will do another, they are very diesel centric like all of the European builders. Gas engines for Motorhomes, Vans are basically non existent outside NA. Even Pickup Trucks are now virtually all diesel. Their other option for the Sprinter has been an even smaller 2.1 litre Diesel

The GM diesel will have the new eight speed transmission, so it should match up with the Mercedes offering pretty well. Other than the ancient package it comes wrapped in, of course. GM does not seem to be jumping on the new hightop van craze.
I would actually rather see Mercedes make another, better attempt at a gas engine in the Sprinter, with that new 7-speed. Today's diesel has been regulated into such a mess that I'm staying away.

Mercedes tried a gas option earlier on with the Sprinter, but dropped it

Mercedes can get away with a four-banger diesel because of the seven speed transmission and the relatively lightweight unibody construction.

I just don't see how GM is going to pull this off well, unless they mate the engine with a completely new drivetrain.

It will be interesting to see the real world MPG. I would consider a full size passenger van that gets good mileage.
I don't tow so, that would be the attraction for me.
Thanks for posting.
