Winterizing

We are heading up to Buffalo, NY the first week of November to pick-up our first DP Motorcoach. It's a 2005 Newmar Mountain Aire. My question is, should we have the dealer winterize it before we pick it up? We would love to be able to use the bathroom for our return trip to NC, but don't want anything to freeze.

Second question, if I do decide to winterize it myself upon return, how do I handle the washing machine and ice maker water lines?

many thanks

Yours may vary, but in mine, I disconnected the water lines into the washer and the ice maker, and blew the air through them. The washer had a draining procedure for winterizing it.

So long as the heat is on in the coach, there's no need for it to be winterized just for the trip. Assuming you'll be using it immediately when you take possession (if only to sleep in for a night or two), I think I would ask the dealer to have the heat and water systems all turned on and the tank at least partly filled; that would also enable you to verify that there are no leaks or other problems with the plumbing when you initially get it.

(I'm making the assumption here that any DP for sale in Buffalo is going to be at least marginally capable of subfreezing operation—that is, it at least has the tanks enclosed in a nominally heated area, if not more complete cold weather equipment.)

Being used, if you want it winterized, I would make sure. We have already had some freezing nights in the NE, so I hope it is already.

If you are buying at a dealer, it will already be winterized. Been there, done that.
