Wiper blade replacement

I read somewhere a while back that instead of paying $30-40 each for wiper blade replacements that NAPA can replace just the rubber part on the existing hardware. Is this true?

My coach had the larger J hook and 31" blades. I cut the large J hook off the end of my wiper arm and bolted these on:

I now use a standard 28" blade which provides plenty of coverage.

I'm a little confused on this. Our blades are just 28 in. I bought the blades from CW and pulled the old ones out of the frame. Inserted the little metal strips and back into the frames. The bracket is attached to the arm with two little screws.
The coach is not here for me to look at. Is there a different bracket or another way to just buy an auto type entire blade assembly and detach th old one and clip on the new one, just like an auto. If there is I really need 32 in assemblies.

Not sure what kind of MH or wiper arms you have but the issue is that the usual MH - 32" blades are mounted to the arm with a larger J hook than a standard car might use. 32" blades are also more expensive. You can buy regular car blades up to 28" pretty much any place for about 1/10 of the price. But the J hook won't mount to the wiper arm on the MH. So, you can drill out the rivet holding in the new J hook and mount it to the MH arm using a small bolt or screw. It almost sounds like you have automotive wiper arms on your coach in which case it's not an issue for you. Unless you want to mount 32" blades.

Mine are the 32" and I got them from amazon. $34. The brackets didn't fit so I just pulled the wiper part out and replaced my worn out ones.

And that is what I never could figure why such a big wiper blade. I do not think there are many coaches with a bigger one piece windshield then what my coach has and my 26" wipers are more then enough to clear the rain drops. Then the worst part is that they are hard to find and then they want an arm and a leg to buy them.

To answer your OP I have not been able to find just the rubber replacement blades at Napa or anywhere else. Judging from the replies no one else has either. I buy them when they go on sale. I bought a set off 28 in blades from Blue Coral at Big Lots for $2.50. Ocean State Job Lot has Rainex brand regularly for $4.50 a set. Wish we could still find just the rubber replacements.

I contacted Diesel Equipment Company in Greensboro NC and replaced the coach over sized J-hook wiper arms with standard J-hook arms. Now I can get blades that fit with no modification needed just about anywhere wiper replacement blades are sold. They make most of the original arms that come on most motorhomes.

Their number is (336) 373-8331

No confusion on my part as the 28" blades provide as much usable visibility as the 32" blades and they are available for $9 at Walmart. Try it and see.

There appears to be a lot of confusion about the blades sizes..... most auto parts and Walmart et.al. only carry blades up to 28", Advance has started carrying 29" but for the 32" blades they are an entirely different story.

Thirty-two inch blades with the J hooks for the large windshields are in the $33-50 range per blade. They mostly have to be ordered as I have yet to find a RV dealer to have them in stock. Campingworld.com has them on sale for $29.69 each.

I tried to get Advance auto parts store, which also owns Car Quest auto parts, to special order a set but they say they cannot even special order them.

I put two 28" blades from Costco for about $25 on my rig. The wider arms on mine also have two screws to secure the blade to the arm. With the new blades I popped out the rivet in the center of the new blades then attached the original mounting bracket with a small stainless nylock nut and bolt.
Works great and much cheaper.

I drilled mine out years ago. I get mine at Sam's Club. Don't even know why I leave the darn things on the coach though, I never drive in the rain...:)....glad you found a cheap solution....Dennis

I replace mine with WalMart wiper blades. I do not remember how much they were, but they are not expensive and are easy to install. Paying forty dollars is pure nonsense.

I buy a regular blade, remove the rubber which is still attached to a metal frame, and slide it into place. It clips in. Doing this for years. I use regular blades I get at Walmart. Works for me.
