Would you put used tires on your coach?

My coach tires (16 inch) are ready to be replaced.the tires are in excellent condition but have aged out.

I stopped by a local tire shop today and he had several firestone transforce tires in my size .the tires have 8/32 tread remaining and date code is 2 years old.the tires are from a local utility company service truck.

I can have tires mounted and balanced for $45 each.
what is everyones opinion?
While we average about 8-10 trips a year our average mileage is less than 2000 miles per year with our longest being 350 round trip.

For what it's worth...

Local driving, below 50mph or so, no problem - get the used tires.

Highway driving at highway speeds - I would want new.

On my trucks and cars I've always gotten new tires. On my trailers I have sometimes gotten used tires in excellent condition.

Back to my coffee!

My biggest concern would be not knowing the original direction of rotation. Contrary to what any tire manufacturer says I would never cross rotate. It changes direction of rotation. They say it is OK but over the years I have seen to many balance issues arise when the direction of rotation on a radial gets reversed. This phenomenon was witnessed many times over my 40 years in the auto business.

Cross rotation is 100% fine, happens every day without an issue! Note: trucks have been using recapped radials for 25+ years...and any capped tire has a 50% chance of being reversed!

For $45 each, I'd grab them in a second! Just make sure they're not the Transforce AT traction tire, at least in front. Note: a Transforce HT lists at $149 at Tire Rack.

Only if I could not afford new tires. The used tires removed were removed for a reason. I would not want to jeopardize our lives just to save on a tire a few bucks.

Maybe I can help you get over it.
Your 91 PA was on a Chevy P32 chassis with 19.5 tires.
The OP has a 96 Ford F53 chassis with 16" tires.
On gas chassis, the chassis manufacture provides the tires.

2 year old tires is ok. The question was would I put them on. My answer is still: I age my own tires out. I know what they have been through. I don't buy other's problems. Everyone does what they feel good with. I still will not get used tires.

Why did the Utility Company remove the tires?

If primarily used in urban areas, one could expect a lot of curb bruising of the tire sidewall during their operations. This I know from career transportation experience.

If the facts presented are the only relevant factor for the subject tires, then why not use the tires on the rear axle.

Interesting negative replies....If the OP said he was looking at a motorhome with two year old tires you would all chime in that two years is good!
OP, forget the naysayers, they're probably good tires and a good deal.

not me. if it were me purchasing a used RV I would, and would recommend, that the tires be replaced.
