Electric S'mores Maker

So, we received an Electric S'mores Maker for Christmas and we were REALLY excited to give it a shot. The excitement was short lived once we opened the box though. It works, but just doesn't replicate the S'mores made over a good old flame and in my opinion is way over priced.

I'm thinking the good indoor S'more may be a pipe dream short of making them in the fireplace. Has anyone had any success with this or suggestions? Now that we hyped this thing up with the kids they'll stop at nothing to enjoy their favorite camping snack between trips.

S'mores for us is all about camping, but we have a trick for the perfect s'more.

We prep the gram and the chocolate before the campfire and marshmallows. Take your choice of chocolate we prefer dark chocolate, melt it down in a pot or microwave. Spread melted chocolate on your grams and let set up, this makes a thin layer of goodness to melt when you add the HOT marshmallow . This can be done at home or RV and store in a Tupperware till around the camp fire. This little prep makes all the difference in the world!!!!!!!!!

For us, the process of making smores, and the environment surrounding it, is just as special (or even more so) as eating them. We have never had smores at home, but ALWAYS have them out campin. One more stat for going campin.

Saw one in the store. I left it on the shelf.

If not camping, .... really .... hold the marshmallow over the toaster from a fork. Does a GREAT job!

I saw this item on another forum a while back and decided to check the Amazon reviews and most of them seem to share a common response: It takes forever to heat up and never really gets hot enough to get a nice marshmallow "toast" going. Bummer...

Our electric stove ruins that for us too. I'm thinking fireplace might be the best indoor solution.
