German Chocolate Cake

We have tried a number of cake in a mug recipes, but have found that they are all better with German chocolate cake topping, and it's easy to make.

1 cup evaporated milk or cream
1 cup sugar
1 stick butter, cut into chunks
3 egg yolks

Cook over low/medium heat until bubbles form around the edges of the pan. Cook for an additional two minutes, and add:

1 1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 1/2 sweetened shredded coconut

Cool until room temp and spread on cake, or serve warm spooned over cake.

I don't use German baking chocolate, but the recipes are bound to be similar. I've used this recipe for years after getting it from my grandmother's cook. She probably did get it from a package of German chocolate. BTW, German refers to the business owner's last name, not the nationality.

My other favorite recipe from German chocolate is chocolate angel pie. Yummy stuff, too!

I stopped in the bakery in Bishop, Ca. a couple days back and had the cake they make, wow, $3.75 very good.
