It's inconsistent in my experience: sometimes the club's PR person forgets about the internet and just reaches out to the local paper. My best advice is to get on the mailing lists of the closest DO groups and keep in touch. Also check the IDOS site from time to time. That said there are some regular events that occur annually like the Mile High DOG in NC. I usually mark those on my calendar each year and start looking for info a month or two beforehand.
