Dear Marcus: Why a lack of goods on shelves

Dear Marcus: Yesterday, I went to our Wood village Camping World just east of Portland Oregon. Camping world is my favorite store and is only four miles from our home. Here is a heads up for you. More often than not they don't have the simplest things in stock. I see a couple hundred RV covers on the shelves but not the bike cover that protects you bike while traveling. Light bulbs, small bags of moisture absorbent and containers are just a few things that I have tried to buy in the past and am always given the answer that "we can order it for you". I can also order it myself but drive to your store because I need it now. Your store isn't the only one afraid to put a few extra units on the shelves and if this is going to be how things work, I will quit driving to stores and save myself some fuel. I would think with computers watching your stock that this would not be a problem but I assure you, this is my experience over the last three years. Thanks for your time and best regards, David

I was in the Wood Village Camping World today and the shelves were stocked and cheerful staff were working and available for questions.

Hopefully it stays that way. I also thought pricing was more competitive than in prior visits too.

I don't understand the empty shelves either. I used to go to both Wilsonville and Woodvillage, I don't stop at either now. Went to Wilsonville when they had LED bulbs advertised, called first put on hold for 10 minutes was told they had stock, drove to Wilsonville the same day, nothing in stock. Manager was busy pushing a cart around stocking shelves. Marcus is busy with his TV projects, I would suggest that during the break he should spend some time working on inventory control and instead of having the manager stocking shelves they could be involved in fixing inventory problems.

That is an issue. Until Marcus can fix thi, the only thing I would know to do would be to ask them on the phone to make sure they have it in their hand and then if they do, have them hold it for you, with your name on it.

Would be nice if CW would do a thing like Walmart does (ship to store). Most of the time the item is in stock and in the Layaway section when you get there waiting for you. But then again, they will need to have the item in hand.

wbwood, We have called ahead to Woodvillage CW before for a item. They looked item up, said yes we have it in stock, then get to the store, later the same day, they looked up item, computer said yes in stock, but guess what? No its not in the stock room. They say sorry, would you like us to call the Wilsonville store and see if they have it? Or we can order it for you.
And this has happened to us 3x at Woodvillage, that's why we do NOT go there anymore.

You can go on to Camping Worlds website and look to see if the item is in a specific store. While they don't list specifics of how many they have in stock. They do state things like "limited quantities" and etc. If it's a distance to drive, I would call them and have them to check to see if they actually have it and if they do, have them hold it until you can get there in a reasonable amount of time.

I agree with you tvfrireman. We live in Vancouver,Wa. and USED to go to the Woodvillage CW. Now we go to the Wilsonville store. Yes its a much longer drive...so don't go as often. But they have much more product and 110% better service and knowledgeable personnel.
