Dish Unveils New Portable Satellite Antennas
Pathway X1 and X2 Deliver Programming Out of Home
By: Mike Farrell Jan 31 2014 - 10:01am
Dish Network unveiled two portable HDTV antennas Friday that will allow subscribers to access programming outside the home, whether tailgating at sporting events or camping in the great outdoors, and with the option of tacking service onto their existing Dish contract, or via a "pay as you go" plan.
The Pathway X1 and X2 products cost between $449 and $549 each and can deliver every English language channel available through Dishโs Americaโs Top 120 package or higher, as well as XM Sirius Satellite Radio music programming. Customers can choose a monthly payment option for service with no long-term commitment. Existing Dish customers can add the Pathway service to their current account for $7 per month and enjoy the same programming on a single bill.
This is Dishโs second foray into portable antennas โ at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show the company unveiled the Tailgater, a portable 10-pound device that was targeted at RVers, parking lot tailgaters and outdoors enthusiasts.
The Pathway is different โ it is sleeker and more compact than the Tailgater and is compatible with more equipment. The Tailgater only worked with Dishโs ViP 211k single-tuner HD receiver
โMust-see games, shows and entertainment โ only DISH delivers portable HD satellite antennas that make it easy and affordable for consumers to enjoy all their programming including their Sirius XM music stations wherever life takes them,โ said Dish vice president of product management Bassil El-Khatib in a statement. โThe Pathway X1 and X2 for Dish are the latest in portable satellite technology that brings the big game to the big screen while on the go.โ
The Pathway products are targeted at RV users, tailgaters and campers. Pathway X1 is the smallest portable antennal available and The Pathway X2 offers the ability to watch different HD channels on two TVs simultaneously.
The Pathway X1 and X2 Antennas are manufactured by Winegard and are compatible with Dishโs Solo HD receivers (models 411, ViP 211, ViP 211k and ViP 211z) that provide power to the antenna. The products are available at Dish distributors and select national retailers, including Amazon and Camping World Supercenters. Consumers can purchase: the Pathway X2 for $449, or bundle the antenna with a DISH ViP 211z receiver for $499; the Pathway X1 for $499, or bundle the antenna with a DISH ViP 211z receiver for $549.
