Future of Directv for campers

I have been reading the DTV will shut down SD broadcasting in 2019.. I also see where many stores are still selling and promoting Winegard Carryout type antennas that will only receive DTV SD?? That is what I have.. Will these antennas and associated receivers be totally obsolete in 2019? The carryout can also be used for DISH so are we going to be forced to switch to DISH if we don't want to expend more $$$? Just looking towards the future..

Sounds like someone is looking to make MO Money... I'm sure a solution will present itself...for a price. At least you have choices...until they merge.

The Winegard Antennas also do DISH NEWWORK both SD and HD and at this time I am not aware of Dish planing on changing that as DirecTV did.

So you now have my recommendation.

I"m sure someone (likely King Controls) will come out with an antenna for DirecHDTV in the carryout type.. but as of now they have not.

Unfortunately, no one has a good answer to this. The Carryout is fully capable of receiving HD programming. What they Carryout type antenna does is receive whatever programming is coming from the DTV satellite at 101 in the sky. When DTV stops broadcasting SD it must be assumed that they will not stop using the 101 satellite but what will be broadcast? The dome style antennas are setup to receive KU band broadcasts only and if the 101 broadcasts something it will still be in KU and it will still be receivable with the domes.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

We had directv in the house and RV for years. We switched to Dish for a better price. Some of the channels we watch aren't on Dish so we are going back to Directv. If we need new equipment we will get it.

Yeah, I've heard the same thing as well about Directv. We have been back and forth between Dish and Directv many times in the past to get promotional pricing and they pretty much are the same, if you have to switch to Dish you will still find the same channels.

My DW will not watch SD on a HDTV since the picture is less detailed and must be contorted in order to fit the entire screen. I would keep the same equipment and just switch to Dish, HD programming and having locals wherever you go is hard to beat.
