Give Kindle to Grandson w/Books On It

I'm thinking of giving my old kindle to my grandson and upgrading to the new paperwhite for myself. The old one is full of scifi books which we both like. When I activate my new paperwhite, will it erase all the books I have on the old kindle?

I handed over my old Kindle fire to my wife and renamed it with her name so it would be more personal, I have the Kindle app on my iPad and we share the same books. She has read lots of free books that loaded a few years ago. Just got her a new Kindle Fire HD and put it in my Prome account. She is not too computer literate so if she wants something I install it for her. Loves her Fire HD!
Oh, we have read the same book at the same time. A pop up appears when you go back to read and asks if you want to stay on the same page or go to the page on the other device.

Well, you could only erase them remotely if he turns the Wifi or Whispernet on.

NO. but if he re-activates it with a new account so he can add his own books it might.

So long as he does not have access to your AMAZON password you can erase them remotely or he can locally but it will require human action to erase them.

HE WILL ALSO HAVE ACCESS TO ALL OTHER BOOKS ON YOUR AMAZON KINDLE ACCOUNT.. Even if they were installed on a different device.

(I have 3 different registered devices on my account and they all share the library).

Be sure when you activate the new one you set your default device at Amazon's kindle store.

5thwheel- you could just save the content to a file on your computer and load it on the new Kindle yourself ๐Ÿ™‚

As long as you leave it as an authorized device on the Kindle store it will not delete the books. You might want to check if you have one touch buying enabled. If you do your grandson can probably buy books with the old Kindle as well.

Totally agree. If you keep it authorized to your account books are available to all devices you have authorized. Remember though, that old kindle is authorized on YOUR account, your grandson when he buys books go against your account, not his, nor would books he buys on his account won't show on the kindle unless he authorizes it on his account. Not sure how the billing will occur if the kindle is registered on 2 accounts.

My thoughts exactly. Don't know if that model allows for profiles, but on the Fire you can setup profiles and use controls to restrict the kids from doing certain things.

We have two laptops, two tablets, and two smartphones registered on our Kindle account. All of them can be used to read the same books.

Depends on the age of the Grandson imho. Kindles cannot be treated like a paperback etc.

No, it will not. I got a new paper white as a gift and after activation I still have all of the content on my original Kindle. And I can still download books to my original Kindle.
