IPad Battery

I'm about ready to purchase an IPad. Several of my friends have them so I asked this question, "Is the battery replaceable?" (all rechargeable batteries have a finite life, as far as I know).

Well, we pondered the question and came up with three possibilities:

1. Buy a new tablet ($$$).

2. Send the tablet back to the factory for battery replacement.

3. Use the tablet always plugged in (sort of defeats its purpose).

Almost appears to be a case of "planned obsolescence"

What has been your experience? How long should these batteries last?

Wife had the original iPad, over four years old still has a good battery after daily use, recharged it every night. She now has the new iPad Air.

Me, too! It is easier on the eyes and I love having a camera. So easy to take pictures and show them - just took some of our sun room abuilding and took them to the heating store, saving them a trip at my expense. Four times larger runtime memory makes multiple copy/paste to forums work much better.

I use ifixit.com for battery replacement, etc. Their iPad 1 battery is $50. Parts are good quality and you will use their instructions even if you buy cheaper parts on eBay. I replaced an iPhone battery and an iPhone cracked screen.

Have a look at the casing. It's not plastic, it's not a punched out aluminium sheet. It is made from a solid slab of aluminium, machined out to fit all the components. It's like a finely made watch.

Good point! Never though of that. Still, at that price platinum (or gold) may have been more appropriate. LOL

Well, I bought another iPad air tablet. I decided on not putting the money into another laptop even though mine is getting obsolete. I think she's good for a while longer. I'm learning to really enjoy my iPad , although I think it's a little overpriced. I do enjoy the portability and long battery life, though.

Sweet, yes they are over priced, but worth it. My friend has the iPad Air and she's having so much fun with it. She does have to make an appt. with the Genius Bar to get her iPhone and iPad to sync together. Her passwords aren't matching up with the two devices.

There are places that specialize in fixing I-Products.. Generally they replace the battery (often upgrade) as part of the repair.

HOWEVER, since I do not have any I-Junk. (I have a dislike for Apple the company, The products are good. I don't like the company due to past practices which I'd rather not go into here) I avoid them

I do have some 'droids and on the tablets I have had it is not easy to replace the battery (Possible though, with tools) of course on the phone snap, snap. Tap, replace.

Find an I-Product repair place and ask them.> That would be my suggestion.

NOTE: Never seen a Windows tablet so can not comment on them.

well, after using the ipad for over a week I decided to return it to Wall-Mart. There was nothing wrong with it but I felt I should put that $500 towards a new laptop, which would be more useful to me. WM has a nice return policy...no questions asked.

It will make someone a nice cheap refurbished unit that's as good as new.

I don't miss the camera on the old iPad. Have one on the iPhone and several MUCH better digital cameras always with us. Any pics I want on the old iPad I send through iCloud.

Thanks, everyone. Your comments have put me at ease. Now I'm getting curious about the IPad Air. One of my friends mentioned this product and I looked it up online. Rather expensive but the reviews are mostly very positive. Is the Air really worth the extra $100?

YES
It's lighter, more powerful with a better camera.

True, but I'll bet they come out with an even better model very soon. Pretty clever. The manufacturer waits until they sell a sufficient quantity of a certain model before springing a "new, improved" version on the public. Whadaya gonna do? That's business!

original iPad here also and wait until battery is down to 20% before charging. Usually is good for 2-3 days still between charges.
