Is Artificial Intelligence swooping down on us?

OK, I've always been one of those who believed in the conspiracy theories: Yes, Elvis is still alive, JFK is living on an island in the Bahamas, Elvis Presley is really alive and well in Argentina!

So, I've been extremely skeptical of all this modern technology happening all around us, you know, "Serie?" "OK Google, I have a question? Do "Smart Televisions" really record the conversations occurring in your own home? If you have a Smart Refrigerator, is it recording everything in your kitchen?

Well, you all decide, but a very strange thing just happened to me.

OK, RV.net has been slow over the last several weeks, and I've been drawn into watching YouTube videos. I'm logged into my own account, and I've noticed how YouTube makes suggestions for new videos that you (or me) might find interesting, yes ... based upon your past viewing experiences.

But these two really take the cake!

My daughter and family recently moved to Hawaii. So, my wife started watching all these different shows on Netflix about Hawaii. She has her own account.

A couple days ago, I made a comment to a post where I used the word "T@B" tear drop travel trailers.

So, you know what? I'm now getting flooded with YouTube suggestions for videos on "T@B" tear drop travel trailers and videos about Hawaii.

Go figure?

And the future push is sell "Smart" RV's that are operated fully from a Smart Phone? Oh my!

For marketing of course. If they can have access to exactly how we spend our money, they can market to us better (e.g., sell our info to the highest bidder).

I'm not a believer in conspiracy theories and I don't tend to paranoia, but unfortunately this stuff is real. And the public lets it happen because of the "let them have my info, I've got nothing to hide" attitude.

Not quite what happened. The Cyprus bank accounts were insured for up to 100,000 euros. Accounts that had more than 100,000 euros had 40-50% of that additional money taken to pay for the bailout. There are big questions as to the source of those large accounts - many Russian depositors. And the Cyprus banks' deposits were at about 800% of the Cyprus GDP - again something smells.

My grandfather never put more than the insured amount into any single bank because he knew anything over that amount was at great risk. That's common sense. Hiding your money in your mattress is just as likely to get it wiped out in one blow as putting it all in one bank.

Thank you for that clarification. I couldn't remember what country. Here's another gem. Facebook has been making a push to get into our banking records. Wouldn't that be great? Apparently they've been put off for now, but the tone of the article seemed to imply they'll try again.

I don't see that happening. We're long overdue for a recession, and I think the tax-cut euphoria is over. But hope away!.. nobody really knows.

If you've had money there for a few years you should have done pretty well.

So do I!!

My wife asked me today if our retirement money tanked with the market. I gave her my stock answer, โ€œIts only money, well make more.โ€ Then she reminded me I retire next week :E :E :B

They are slowly advancing toward an Orwellian society, one that not only monitors their citizens, but also control's them as well. Sound far fetched ? In china you get assigned a "holistic rating of character" that follows you everywhere. If you don't buy toilet paper that the government favors, your character rating takes a hit. If you jaywalk, the police show up at your door right away. This is how China does it Big data will destroy our liberty, freedom, and ultimately our finances.
