Keyboard Woes

Hi, all. I have a new Toshiba laptop w/ Windows 8 which I'm generally happy with. However, I'm having some difficulties with the keyboard compared with my old Toshiba laptop. As I type I find I must use heavier pressure on the keys or certain letters won't appear in the script and I have to go back and insert those missing letters.

Is this an inherent problem with newer computers? My older XP laptop rarely missed letters and I could type using a softer touch. I doubt I can do anything about the situation but thought I'd post on the forum to see if others are noticing the different feel compared to older machines.

Like everything else, they don't build 'em like they used to. Is it possibly because some years ago our computers were made in Japan but now China has taken over? Just a wild guess.....

Thanks for the replies. I don't think there's any crud under the keys yet since the laptop in so new. It appears excess CPU usage is not the culprit, either. I'm learning to live with it.

BTW, I did give consideration to a wireless keyboard but that detracts somewhat from the portability of a laptop. However, I could possibly use a wireless keyboard with my iPad so I may give that a try to see if I like it. Thanks again....

Keyboard lag can be caused by both hardware and software issues. Are any running processes eating up CPU cycles, or do you notice a lot of HD activity when this happens?

I had a similar issue with my ACER One Netbook, though with the trackpad and not the keyboard. Swore that it was a defective trackpad, as response time was lagging and at times would not not respond accurately. Was worse when recovering from sleep mode, requiring a reboot.

Turns out, I discovered it was the WIN 7 Synaptic driver for the trackpad which allows the use of gestures similar to a tablet. Uninstalled it, and instead used Microsoft's generic mouse driver. The trackpad now operates normally.

I sometimes find it awkward typing at my laptop so I use a wireless keyboard. Lots of good ones out there.
I can hook up the laptop to the large screen TV then control it from across the room for video viewing or streaming.

Same here, You can use a can of dry air to blast dust and stuff out of the KB, this may help... It is amazing how much "Crud" collects in those keyboards.

(Or I just use 160 PSI off the crafstman blower)

I didn't want to hear that. I've been quite happy with my older Toshiba, which is the reason I purchased another one. I still use it occasionally.
