My wife and I are buying our first RV. The finance officer has asked us to purchase the following:

-Protection Plan$2224(60MONTHS) Platinum Plan,(covers mechanical, electrical; which are the most expensive repairs for 5 years and can be used at any facility in the US or Canada)
-Tire & Wheel $566.50 (Covers the tires and rims on the RV for 5 years)
-Multi-Seal $567.50 (Your tires, drivers and equipment are protected from job-stopping flats due to slow leaks around the rim as well as air loss through punctures – from pinholes to serious punctures (up to 3/4? diameter in the tread area)
-Eco Pro RV Anti Microbial Protection$1285.00  (protects your interior from stains and bacteria; while protecting the exterior from the harmful oxidizing elements)
-Gap Protection $899.00 Covers  insurance deficiency if your Travel Trailer is totaled

What do we absolutely NEED??? We have USAA Insurance if that matters...

dealers always try and sell these THEY get half of it for selling the plan. take the $5500. put in your bank add a little each month you,ll have a much better plan, DO BUY a EMG road service plan, coach net has been very good to us and others on here. fix minor things yourself ,that way your rv won,t sit on the dealers lot for months waiting on a 30 min repair. learn who your local mobil tech is there smarter ,cheaper, faster than a dealer ,and they,ll let you watch/

Junk all of it. Just say no.

Stick with just the factory warranty and the many extended component warranties that are included.

Welcome to the Forum.
I love it. Eco Pro RV Anti Microbial Protection.
If you decide to fall for all this baloney - after you sign your money away and as you are walking out of office turn around and look at what is going on....

You will see these guys high 5ing one another, doing their happy dance and singing, "We got um."
"If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane."

That all sounds very overpriced to me.

How many sets of tires can you get for the $1000+ they want for tire protection and sealing? Probably at least one and a half.

What electrical and mechanical failures are common on this trailer after the warranty period but before the first five years are up? I'd think $2200 would about cover replacing the fridge or any two of the other major appliances.

Gap coverage may be worthwhile, but it's also a lot of money.

I would save the money, perhaps squirrel some away in the bank for future repairs, and perhaps get a good roadside assistance program (AAA or Coach-Net or whatever your preference is and whatever has better coverage in your area). The rest of the money is better spent using your trailer. (If they're talking about adding this into a loan principal and financing the additional add-ons, make sure you add in whatever interest you pay on the additional principal as well when figuring how much it really costs.)

In my opinion that is $5500 worth of unnecessary coverage. It is like the extended warranties that stores try and sell and you never use.

I think I'd go elsewhere to buy. reason being is that everything you list has a kickback to the selling stealer, so they make it on the sale and make it on the backside too.

For myself, I wouldn't get any of those. For the $5500+ extra they want, you could cover a lot of failures that aren't covered by the 12 month warranty. The other side of the coin is, if you have a bunch of catastrophic failures you "might" get some coverage. Usually the fine print means getting any coverage is a **** shoot at best.

Gap. Normal warranty will be good for everything for at least 1 year. If your camper has problems you will know the first or second time you take it out. If, after the first year you are still having problrms, THEN get additional coverage. Except for Gap, everything else is already covered. You can buy a spray can of a Scotch Guard from Walmart and spray the fabric and get the same or better protection.
