Hello rv.net folks.

I've become the new owner of a 1983 Ford RV which my friends and I will be using to tailgate at Cleveland Browns games.

The RV has a few problems, it will need...

- a new power steering fluid pump
- 6 new tires
- carpet removal and treating the floor underneath
- exterior paint
- sink removal
- cabinet removal

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'd go with some vinyl floor covering and if the floor boards are in good shape, just use the same kind of adhesive as you would in your house. Then I'd put down some rug runners where you want them.

In my trailer, it has carpet laid around the front queen bed and the rest is vinyl. I have rugs running up the isle and the entrance and that helps a lot. The carpet around the bed is cheap and not much padding.

But if wall to wall is your plan, I think it's just laid the same way they do it in homes. My dad had his RV re carpeted and it turned out pretty nice. He had thicker padding installed and it's very 'cushy'. He left the kitchen and dining area the stock hard wood flooring it came with. He used home grade "berber" carpeting..

Good luck!

Thanks man. Any thoughts on replacing the carpet? It's old as dirt and needs to go.

My main questions are

-what to replace the carpet with if we want a hard floor surface

-how to attach a new surface to the existing floor boards

thanks again, Mitch

welcome to the club.
sorta sounds like this coming winter for us. This spring we bought a 1084 class A for my sister in law so she can stay with us in AZ for as long as she wants but has a place of her own. all original Allegro

Since you've only got a few more months until football season starts, think of the smaller and necessary items first... 😉

Tires for sure.. That will get you thru many more seasons. Get the most essential appliances running first.. Cleveland.. You'll probably want the furnace and fridge working at least!

Fix any obvious leaks/water issues as soon as you can too..

Hope you have a "good set of tools" too.. 🙂

Good luck!
