How can you use a dually chuck with a portable tire inflator

Hi guys - I have a RAM 3500 Dually that I carry my RV with and I want to carry a portable power pack/air compressor so that I can inflate/deflate my tires for use on the sand (and to generally have around in case of an emergency). The problem is that I can't reach the inner stem without a dually extension chuck like this one , but the chuck uses a 1/4" NPT thread (female) and all of the portable air compressors use a standard car/bicycle-style shrader connector like this:

I have no idea what I need to go from the car/bicycle-style shrader connector to the 1/4" NPT dually chuck or what to search for. And no, I don't want to replace the stems on the tires (that's what the chuck is for). Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any tips.

Sounds like you're either looking for a valve extender or a long tire inflation chuck.

Check out the 400P-RV Automaticby VIAIR. It comes with a 45 degree push pull chuck that reaches.

Thanks everyone for their advice. I ended up buying the 1/4 npt adapter seen here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002V4Q4I/ref=pe_385040_30332190_TE_3p_M3T1_ST1_dp_1

This is what I used and now use on our MH.

Just use your dually double headed tool and add a pipe thread extension ( get at Home Depot ). Add male air attachment on one end and attach your current stem to the other end. You should not have a problem.

This compressor airs up our MH tires. You can hook both air lines together for longer reach.

I had this air compressor. It worked fine for my wife's car and my truck, but not on the inner dual of the motor home. The compressor has a detachable hose, but the fitting was an odd size, not a standard size. I ended up buying a tap specifically for the standard fittings so I could use a standard hose. I just bored out the existing hole and installed a standard air hose quick disconnect.

Buy a Schrader valve stem with an 1/8" male thread and a 1/4" x 1/8" steel bushing and install into your dually chuck. The Schrader valve stem usually sold at heating and plumbing supplies companies for use in hot water heat systems for bleeding the air out of the pipes.

I have three of those inflators, two like that and a better one with a threaded end that I attach to the same kind of chuck you have. Had to pay $50 for the better inflator at Walmart but it is vastly better than the cheap ones - faster and able to top up my motorhome tires to 65 psi. I gave away my cheapest one to a bicycle owner and keep the other in the car.

Cut the end off your compressor hose and install a barb to 1/4" male thread fitting. Thread this into your dual tire air chuck.

I'm not familiar with any compressors (that I would use on a truck tire) that have a fitting like that on the end.

What brand of portable inflator are we talking about? If you're using a small cheap one, it will likely take forever to inflate your tires.

Could get something like this Schrader to 3/8" fitting and attach a female quick connector. That combination will fit your chuck. You may want to just replace the entire inflator hose and get a decent sized one with the female on one end.

I simply use a long valve stem on the inner tire. Now I can add air using any type of standard connection.

Something like this

What about a standard hose repair kit. Cut the end off the hose and Put a quick disconnect on the hose. You can use your dually chuck, and anything else you care to hook up.
