Do I leave the propane tank open all the time so that the refrigerator is running?

Do you leave things in it? Then yes, otherwise clean it out and wipe it down and leave the doors open. I keep mine at home plugged in all the time with drinks in the fridge and I leave the propane on in case the power goes out so it does not warm up. I have never had a problem doing this.

While you are traveling? We do except where it is prohibited such as on ferries or in tunnels.

Not sure I understand your question. Probably just me...
Frig will run on electricity - without propane if you are hooked up to shore power.

When driving/towing we run our frig on propane, so yes we leave the propane on.
