Some say to tow 4 down you need to disconnect the negative on battery.
That requires a reset of radio, locks, and clock.
Any suggestions to by pass this?

I realize the my 2004 Ford Explorer is a totally different year.

However, I tow it four down (4&4 version) and do not disconnect the battery. I had a similar question when I started towing it, but decided to just see. I Have towed it about 10,000 miles, and for weeks at a time with no indication of any discharging of the battery.

thx --- Dale

Not too many responses..... I'm not familiar with the 2016 Explorer 4x4 but IF the reason for disconnecting the battery is to save the battery from going dead (my thinking because the key is turned to accessory to unlock the steering) than running a simple charge line from the rig to maintain the Explorer's battery during towing would work for you. Just remember to turn off the Explorer's key when stopped. Suggest going to the service department and ask at a Ford Dealership to confirm. There are simple charge kits available with diodes etc to make it an easy job. This would likely solve your problem but check first.
