Bike Cover -- Which one is best

I recently purchased the Swagman Bike Cover from Camping World because it was an enclosed bag with zipper to keep the newly purchased Electra Townie bicycles ($500/bike) that I wanted to keep clean and dry. However, after my first 180 miles and a little rain, I have determined that this bike cover is NOT waterproof, but more of a water absorber.

Therefore, I would like to know what others are doing to carry their bikes. If you use a cover, what kind, where did you get it and does it work to keep the bicycles clean and dry (during rain storms).

I'm looking for what RVers are doing, since we tend to leave our bikes outside a little more than weekend S&B people.

For example:
I carry my bikes on the toad via a hitch bike rack with a rail system. Currently using the Swagman bike cover and it doesn't workโ€ฆvery wet and absorbs water (pooling in the bottom of the bag) when it rains.

THANK YOU!

Deb and Ed M,

Thanks so much for the link to the cover on Amazon (thanks to mguay for making it clickable)!

I remove the front wheel and store my Mtn Bike in one of the pass thru compartments. I ride mine almost every day. I store my wife's bike in the trunk of the tow car by removing both wheels. She doesn't ride hers much except around the campground. I don't like the idea of hanging it off of the ladder. I do have a carrier for the two bikes for the tow car that attaches to the trunk of the car that I can carry the bikes to better places to ride.

Our daughter gave us this one as a Christmas gift for our January trip to FL:

And all the way to Florida and back, it kept our bikes clean, dry, and road-salt-free. It's SO waterproof, that a puddle formed between the 2 bikes: luckily I saw it before it dumped a gallon of water on my shoes....LOL!! VERY happy with it - especially after we watched a man from Ohio trying to get his 2 non-covered bikes to pedal again ("frozen" with road salt)

Iluvrvcamping and mguay,

Thanks for the BBQ idea. I had thought about them and the grommets sound like a sure thing. I have gotten another Bike Cover and we'll give it a try. If this fails, I'm going BBQ Grill Cover for sure.

THanks

Wife got an expensive new bike 2 years ago. We went on an 8 week trip so got a good double bike bag for em since they were mounted on the rear of the MoHo. Only rode em ONCE cause it was such a hassle to bag & unbag em. Waste of money.

My hubby uses BBQ covers and then grommets holes around the edges to tie down cover. Keeps bikes dry and clean.

What about using a BBQ cover that's water proof (which is what we use when stationary) and then putting the Swagman over that to secure it? I know that's kind of a pain but it's a cheap fix and you can still use what you already have.
Just a thought!
