Bought a new WD hitch setup

Haven't even picked up my trailer yet, lol. I've towed my past trailers using the good ol' J-bar Equalizer setups, so that's what I set out to buy today. Since my truck is lifted, I was going to have to buy an additional drop shank with any hitch I purchased, so I knew I wasn't going to get out of there cheap. Sales guy showed me the Andersen WD hitch setup, and after I compared price and features, I went ahead and bought the Andersen. Plus, they swapped out the shank with an extended one for me at no additional cost.

So, after coming home with my new toy, lol, I found this video, and am even happier with my decision now. No over-centering bars to reef on all the time, the plate drops off the bottom with one pin pull, and best of all, NO GREASE or big nasty greasy bars to store when not in use! I'm diggin' it so far. I'll let y'all know how it pulls and rides.

Well, I towed the trailer home today with the Andersen. I can say one thing with absolute certainty- this TT has nowhere near the tongue weight that my fiberglass Weekend Warrior FS3000 30' front sleeper toyhauler had. My truck hardly dropped an inch when I set the tongue down on it. I don't think I have it set up just right yet, as I did seem to feel some wind buffet at highway speeds , but bear in mind it has been 5+ years since I've towed anything this size.

I don't think this trailer is over 1000 tongue. I plan to go to scales in the next few days to get some empty weights.

I was one of those, who was questioning the amount of weight transfer. The Andersen hitch was not restoring 100% of weight taken off from front axle. However, according to the owners manual for my truck, there is no requirement for 100% restoration. It simply states a measurement of front and rear bumbers (both while hitched and unhitched). Using the Andersen hitch, my measurements are within truck manufacturers specs. This summer will be my third year, using the Andersen hitch.

Note to OP:

I too, needed a longer drop shank. My (F250) rear springs and blocks were replaced with F350 springs and blocks. This lifted the rear end, 2 inches.

To expand a bit on what fla-gypsy posted -- many Andersen users have had problems transferring weight with it.

Your TT easily could have a loaded tongue weight of 1300# which could cause a load of around 600# to be removed from the TV's front axle.

Ford specifies the WDH should be adjusted to restore approximately 100% of the removed load back onto the front axle.

So far, the maximum amount of load restoration reported by Andersen users has been around 200#.

There have been a few folks here using the Anderson system with success. One I remember said he had problems transferring enough weight with it. Give us a review after using it a few times and getting it dialed in.

That's a very interesting system! There are some really different new WDH systems out these days.
