Just wondering how many people bring a boat along with their RV to the campgrounds?

It's something for us to consider and I know that the TT will carry w/ ease but no decision has been made; I enjoy quiet water sports and the man prefers power.

Now that the lower Hudson River has been cleaned and NYC has embraced it's waterfront I wish I'd been able to kayak there when I was younger.
Since the opportunity is now available I decided to give DGD a present of kayaking and sail boating lessons this year. Hope it expands her horizons.

We just bought a 12' Porta Bote with the intention of carrying it on a roof rack on the truck canopy. Our trailer is only 18' and there's too many vents, exhaust vents, fills etc to hang it on the side of the trailer. To Travelnutz's point, any water going conveyance has limitations, ocean going vessels have succumbed to waves, etc.

Some things are not a laughing matter but some are just too smart to listen or watch or read!

Your commitment to boater safety is admirable. Overconfidence, complacency and lack of situational awareness (including adult beverage induced) leads to many tragic incidences.

I think everyone agrees that the proper vessels, as well as proper safety equipment, should be used depending upon the body of water being utilized.

The OP just wants to see what people are taking with them. What type of bicycle do you ride(?).. doesn't need to led to a debate concerning helmet safety. Do you take a boat (?).....just that:

In the Great Lakes where thousands upon thousands of boats go to CG's with the RV's and there are many weather and NOA buoys that record and relay the up and down movement and all up to the minute other weather related data but that's not the norm in most other areas or on inland lakes or rivers. Only have to screw up once and hope it's not the last you can ever do. Probably enough said, carry on!

I do not know the current prices.
I bought my 12 footer back in 2012 and paid right around $2K.
But I bought it at a boat show, so the price may have been somewhat discounted.

The wife and I did the COE lake camping/fishing just about all our adult life (since the late '40s).

We double towed our boats with three different 5th wheel trailers. Before the 5th wheel trailer came along we had truck campers and pulled our boats headin' for the lake orr the river.

I take a 16 foot Prospector canoe with me. If weeklong I take my bass boat. Logistical nightmare to tow a camper and not have that bass boat.

As soon as I figure a good way, I'll be carting the 14' Alumacraft along. Best fishing boat I ever had, no need to worry about dropping bait or spilling a drink. Take it home and wash it out with a hose.
You should be able to double tow it behind your RV. What motor are you running? I'm trying to decide if I want a new e-tec 2 stroke or go with 4 stroke motor that is almost 100lbs heavier.

This above quote by cbshoestring says all that needs to be said on this matter.
Perhaps now we can return to addressing the OP's original question, which was:

Just wondering how many people bring a boat along with their RV to the campgrounds?

Note that the OP did not put ANY restrictions on the definition of, or uses of said boat.
I didn't put any restrictions because I wanted to know what everyone was using to access water.

I also understand travelnutz watching people needlessly go to there death by not using commonsense. I don't think he met it in a derogatory way, more of a warning of caution. Storms come up very quick in the Northern country on the lakes and have caused many people grief or at least a close call.

I even bought PFD'S for my Collies. There is no way I could lift one out of the water without the handle on top.

When you can portage a 24 foot power boat 2 miles over a wilderness trail to get to a remote lake with no road access then come back and discuss whether a kayak or canoe is a boat and which is better.

Each are boats. Each has advantages and disadvantages depending on the situation and use.
