Pic of wrangler with tow bar base plate installed?

I am considering a class C and using my 4 door wrangler as a toad since I already have it and they are supposedly easy to tow.
I'm not crazy about the idea of permanently attaching a baseplate to my daily driver - especially if it's obvious when not being tower (or if there is any negative affect on off-road use).

Can anyone show pictures of a newer model Wrangler with base plate installed? What does it do to the front of the jeep?

avan,
I don't know if you know it or not but, it appears that your bumper is a Smittybuilt SRC. Just guessing. And, they make a few models of that bumper. For a few dollars more, you could have had the welded on D-ring tabs (3/4" x 2")installed. And, Blue Ox makes adapters for that style of D-ring tabs on many of the aftermarket bumpers.
That way, there's no need for a base plate of any type. The tow bar simply attaches to the D-ring tabs for towing.

Then, when done towing, the tow bar is removed and, the D-rings are re-installed and, you're ready for the trail. Just some info.

P.S. Below is our Jeep with a Warn front bumper. On this model, there are dual, 3/4" tabs welded on both sides. Warn builds them either way, single or dual. Blue Ox made the adapters for our Blue Ox Aladdin and, it fits right on that bumper. The adapters were only $49.00.

My advice for any potential Jeep toad owner, if you're even "thinking" about an aftermarket front bumper, have the tabs installed or, purchase a bumper with the tabs already ON and, use those for towing so you can eliminate the need for a base plate. You automatically kill two birds with one stone that way.

Which bumper is this? It doesn't appear to be the LOD or Rock Hard, which has me curious. Thanks!

We also have a custom bumper (Rockhard) and love it. Doesn't interfere with ground clearance, looks great, and gave us what we needed to install a winch.

Confession. Daughter if forcing me to admit that the jeep is her toad and that mine is the more mature person's Saturn

Here is my solution for a Blue Ox tow bar. This is a custom bumper. I had the recovery ring hard points replaced with Blue Ox hard points during fabrication. The four bolts are attached to the Wrangler frame using the stock bumper attachment points. Recovery rings will not fit in the gap between the Blue Ox mounts. So, I ground about 1/8" off one side off the recovery ring.

Here is a quick picture of my 2013 Wrangler with a Blue Ox baseplate and Ready Brake cables. The inside ends of the cables disconnect from the brake pedal allowing enough slack to hide the outside loops. Looks like I'm overdue for some rust cleanup and black touchup paint though.

I thought I had a better picture, but this is all I can find of my 2002 with a Roadmaster set up. All of the hardware you see in the photo pulls off with two pins leaving just the base plates bolted to each frame rail which aren't going to be in your way at all. Holding down the Control key and hitting the + key several times will let you blow up the picture some

I will look there again but the only pic I saw (on the install instructions) didn't show much.

Go to blue ox and you can find a pic of most anything with a base plate
