Redding area campgrounds - full up with fire survivors?

Looks like I might be passing through the area in a few weeks. I'm more interested in the low elevation public campgrounds, not so much the RV parks. But I'm wondering if both are completely full? 30,000 displaced people is a lot. Do I need to plan my route to avoid looking for a drop-in site in the area?

I've looked at that one in the past, although it's probably too far off I-5 for my current plans. I'm surprised to hear Whiskeytown is closed. Is that because of the Carr fire?

From what I can tell online, Sycamore Grove appears to be closed also. Anyone know?

We stayed at the Ackerman Campground. My review is on Campendium. Its about an hour west of Redding on 299. If you go there, visit the Lewiston Hotel. The new owners have a good thing going.

I camped west of Redding in Lewiston in November. Lots of spots. Closer to Redding is the Whiskeytown campground where we usually dump. It was closed.

Anybody else been through the area recently?

goducks10, I did try that before posting, but every public campground I checked was walk-in only at this time of year. No reservations, so no information about occupancy available. I would call the forest service, etc, but I assume that's not an option due to the shutdown.

DutchmenSport, the fire is out, but about 30,000 people lost their homes and 86 people were killed. The entire place has been declared toxic, from stored chemicals that were released, etc. It doesn't sound like they are going to allow people to rebuild.

Why don't you go online and make a reservation for a CG? If it shows full for the time you want then try another CG.

I just stayed at the Heritage RV Park in Corning, which is just south of Redding.
There were a fair amount of folks there from the camp fire. Because there were so many people displaced, they are spread out pretty far and wide.

I got one of the two sites left, over the New Year holiday.
There was a Horse event happening at Rolling Hills Casino which may have contributed to the full RV parks.
I went and looked at a state park in Colusa, on the Sacramento River, that was wide open. I realize Colusa is about an hour from Redding, but my point is, there are spots available if you search them out.

I'm just talking about the whole area. Fire survivors have been put up in motels in Reading, Sacramento, etc. There are just so many people that they have to spread out pretty far.

I can't find any information online about campgrounds, but I'm wondering if the situation is the same -- people spread out over the whole North Valley.

Anybody know?

If you're talking about the survivors of the Camp Fire, most of them are in Chico, not Redding.
Redding is 90 miles away.
