Turbo charged vehicles

Was visiting with a gentleman the other day that had purchased a new turbo charged Malibu to tow 4 down.He stated when they went to install the base plate it fit but covered the turbo intake and could not be used. He stated when he called the base plate company they stated they have started running into this from time to time and there is no remedy.
This is second hand info but something you might want to check out before buying.

Corkey, what year Corvair? I don't remember that on my '63 Monza Spyder.

Don't know about the turbo connection, but the Active Shutters are in in the grill. The idea is to reduce drag and/or temp control when airflow is not needed. The baseplate sits right behind the grill and needs the room the Active Shutter mechanism is already using. The 1.5 liter is the only engine option you can get WITHOUT active air.

As a side note - All I see is another mechanical failure in the future with props to hold the air flaps open. I had to prop open the air flaps on my Corvair, but I guess Chevy still likes them.

It's worse than that.

Yes, SOME Malibu models are Towable

BUT, Not All. The MoHo Magazine Guide says

Only 1.5 Liter Models Without Active Shutters can be Towed

See Page 356 Here.

Chevy has an odd way of expressing this, but several models are excluded from towing, a model called Premier for one. Not clear if 1.5 w/out shutters also means non-turbo, but I'd guess it might.
