Cosequin and Joint Strong??

I've had my Shih Tzu, Cookie, on Cosequin DS (1 pill a day) for over a year. Now that she is approaching 12 years old she limps a little when she walks and even stops and doesn't want to go on. I ordered Joint Strong and was wondering if I should still give her the nightly Cosequin DS pill once I start the Joint Strong.

No. The major effects from all the joint supplements come from chondroitin and glucosamine. To make their product unique, each manufacturer puts in a little different amount of these two things plus "minor ingredients," things like vitamins, minerals, MSM, etc. Some of these ingredients are a little more likely to create symptoms/problems if overdosed while the glucosamin and chondroitin components are very safe even at higher than normal doses.

I've had a few case specific conditions where we did doses about 5-10 times normal therapeutic dose to act as antiflammatory... The ones I remember were onychodystrophy (nails shed and left quick exposed - imagine the pain), and chronic interstitial cystitis (bloody urine that was not caused by infection).

The ingredients are similar, I'd use either/or not both. The glucosamine/chondroitin are hard to OVERdose, but the minor ingredients I'm not sure about.

So the minor ingrediants would be the chewable tablets I've been giving her?
