15 inch tire to 16 inch info needed

If you've gone from 15 inch tires to 16 inch.....

I've got enough axle spread of 33 1/5 inches BUT what about clearance on top or in wheel well?

Who much room do I need when axle goes up and down when traveling?

I've got Alko type axles.

Hey TVMan44, if you don't mind my asking.What make tire did you go to when you went to the 16's and what rating?.

We're going fulltime in 4 weeks and I need to get new tires on our 2005 31 foot 5er which will be approx 10500 loaded.I could run new 15's,just prefer not to if I can get a new tire and wheel package in 16 reasonably.I'm doing new truck tires as well but all set up for the 10 plys for my 2006 Dodge 2500 4x4,5.9 cummins with a 6 speed manual.That's right 6 speed MANUAL and love it,lol.

You need 3" from the top of the tires to the wheelwell.(per Dexter) Measure when the axles are level to one another. This will allow for the necessary suspension movement.

I have done this swap on two different TTs.
It more room is needed, a small lift or axle swap can be used.
I have used both methods with sucess.
Do what ever it takes to get 16" tires. You won't regret it.

I have done it. You will only reduce your top side clearance by 1/2" by going from 15" to 16". I went from 225x75x15 to 225x75x16. Love them.

Maybe you are trying to be able to use LT tires? I certainly don't know anything about stud spacing on the different wheels and hubs.

Are you trying to get another half inch higher, or just putting on larger tires?

I will say one needs 1" to 1-1/2" at the lest.

Just to clarify the 1" to 1-1/2" clearance would be what is needed at the upward travel limit of the tire.
