Hoping that someone here could set me straight. To de winterize, I turned all the valves in the opposite direction that they were already facing. Plugged in the water and opened all the faucets. This got all the pink out. Closed all the faucets (not the valves), water still on at the spigot. Decided to let the water heater fill and check the heaters function. It worked great. By that time, about 10min after the water was turned on, the freshwater tank was completely full and overflowing out the overflow tubes.

Are one of the valves under the sink a valve which sends water to the freshwater tank? Is clockwise normally closed?

One of the valves you moved allows water to go to the tank. My guess would be there are only two valves involved in the water heater bypass. One to stop water from going into the bottom of the water heater, and one to allow the water to pass through the bypass. Put all the other valves back where they were and see what happens.

The check valve is usually in the water pump. I would cycle the pump a few times and see if that fixes it. If not you will have to fix the pump.
