Antique battery?

I found this in a little garbage pile in the bush near a summer camp that I think is from the 1940's or 50's. The location suggests it might have been from a "lighting plant" or generator supplying the camp.

It appears to be a two cell battery! Anyone know if it is and what voltage it would have had?

And foolish too, a local repair joint will give you $10 for any battery you bring in.

It may not be all that old either. Two cell batteries are still used in some industries.

It appears it was an 8v battery, with only 2 of the 4 original cells remaing.

WAG.
