Everything is done with the inverter and solar now on to the batteries, I have 2 1 year old group 27 12v about 90ah each. should I just buy another since they are new or should I up grade to GC batteries or something else? I would like to keep the weight down

With 510 watts of solar you should have a lot more storage (battery). How big of inverter did you install.

That's a nice big inverter. You could try adding just one more battery but you should add two.

What would be really ideal for your solar would be 4 GC's giving you about 460 ah, but you say you are concerned about the weight.

I would rather keep it in my wallet

I would add a third Grp 27 to the other two. It should be fine unless you beat the snot out of the originals. That way you get more usable Ah's, less voltage drop under load and less expense right now. By the time you need to replace them again you should have a good idea what direction to go.

Jim that's kind of what I was thinking

With two perfectly good batteries I would connect one even two more as needed.
With proper care they should serve you well another 5+ years.

I would go with 2 GC's.

That would up the ah from 180ah to 230ah with just 14 lbs more weight.

of your biggest concern is weight just keep what you have GCs or other good batteries will weigh more

1. yes about 150ah
2. these are 53 lbs each
looking for a little more ah currently 180 ah just finish the install so I don't have a real world test.
