I have two 6 volt batteries wired in series, I want to wire an inverter right at the batteries. What would be the best way. With 12 volt batteries its easy positive to positive and negative to negative. Any help is appreciated

If all else fails, I'd hook it up like Roy B's pic above.

Inverter versus converter
They are Two Different things
Unless you purchased a combo inverter/charger unit

Inverters take DC power and make AC power to run things like the TV and DVD player satellite box etc

Converter charges your battery

It's an inverter

To be more specific if you refer to the nice picture that Roy posted for the 6v battery set up, you would connect your pos wire from your inverter to the +12v wire on your first 6v battery and your neg wire on your inverter to the wire marked ground on the second battery in his picture.

Thank you all for the advice and tips, I will look at it again tonight. I will report back when I get it sorted out and wired up.

Sounds like you may have them hooked together in parallel instead of in series.

SPRAY PAINT!

After you get the terminals sorted out...

Paint positive RED

Paint negative BLACK

Paint BOTH series jumper terminals GREEN. Even the series jumper wire.

Green is the "No Touchee" section. Connect no wires except that one cable.

If you are unable to use a hand held voltmeter do not touch anything - get a friend to help.

I am unaware of anything that demands 6-volts plus nothing should ever be connected to "The Green Zone"

Good Luck! ๐Ÿ™‚

One battery's positive is connected directly to the other battery's negative. Don't use either of these 2 posts. Use the remaining positive and negative that aren't connected together. That is the one and only way it will work.

Use the positive from one six volt and the negative from the other six volt.

There's only one way.

You might be well advised to get a voltmeter.
