LP regulator opinion and question.

I'm planning on installing a new two stage regulator on my 2004 Coachman Casade TT that has dual 30 lb. tanks. My current one is a Camco which hasn't been auto switching the tanks.
1. Opinion: Which brand/ model do you recommend? I see Camco and Marshall out there. Is either of these or others bettter?
2. Question: I'm confused about the differences between a low and high flow regulator. Which one do I get?
Thanking all in advance for your help.

Thank you all for your great responses. So far the score is 2-2! I must add that one of the most important criteria is that I use my TT a lot in the winter while boondocking.
Have a great week people.
PS : I find it interesting that there's no so-called product comparisons on the internet about LP regulators.

Oooooohkaaaaay. Cool your jets. Not knocking your precious Cavanaugh and didn't attack you. Just letting him know the one he was looking at was for a lot more flow than he needed and the regular one would be fine.

Ease up big boy...wasn't attacking you, your info or opinion

Just providing actual btu ratings and how they stack up in an typical RV

Way too sensitive :W

And it's Cavagna NOT Cavanaugh
One is Irish and one is Italy

But you're right he doesn't need the High Flow Reg
Is it time for your medication or mine?

The Marshall Excelsior MEGR-253 flow is fine. However the indicator operates poor at best. And yes I had one and was often guessing if the red was up enough that the bottle was empty. Cavagna snaps fully into place and the bottle is empty every time. Much easier to read also.

Marshall is OK. MEGR-253 (without thd H) should be all you need. It gets be by running the stove, furnace and water heater all at the same time. MEGR-253H (high flow) is probably for vending trailers.

The acme nuts on hoses for travel trailers are green which is medium flow.

Black acme nuts are low flow for BBQ grills, outdoor cookers and single appliances, etc.

Red acme nuts are high flow. There is a Papa John's here that does vending at the shipyard here in Newport News and I think it is also used at events. They have a trailer that has 6 - 30 lb cylinders on the tongue and all the acme nuts are red. I looked it over in their store parking lot. I believe it also has the Marshall high flow regulators.

Black ACME QCC nut 100,000 BTU/hr
Green ACME QCC nut 200,000 BTU/hr
Red ACME QCC nut 450,000 BTU/hr

Take ALL the LP appliance btu ratings and add them up.
(high side)
Furnace.......45000 btu/hr
Fridge....... 2200 btu/hr
Water Heater..12000 btu/hr
Stove top
1 High flow burner....9000 btu/hr
2 Medium flow burners.6500/ea ---13000 btu/hr

Total btu/hr demand IF ALL in service
81,200 btu/hr

A Cavagna Group 924 2 stage reg 160,000 btu/hr.
Twice the total demand at 100%

Cavagna!

Our 2014 Coachmen has that same Cavagna regulator shown in OB's link and it's worked just fine so I'd have no reason to not recommend it. ๐Ÿ™‚ It's physically quite a bit smaller than that Marshall and I would guess probably easier to mount.

Forget that piece of JUNK Marshall and buy a Cavagna Group 924N 2 stage auto swap regulator (Model #52-A-890-0006B)
160,000btu flow rating (MORE then enough flow for RV LP Demands)
Additional 'excess flow device'
Better quality then Marshall or Camco Brands

Get the Marshal. Most RV LP 2 stage regulators are rated at 210,000 btu output which is more than double the requirement for flow. Doug
