runs for a few seconds if i hold start switch till running . had on going problem of hunting till load was applied for over a year. some times i would just slow the throttle down with fingers to stabalize rpm. normally it would run ok when load was applied. was dependable but havent used rv much in two years . so low usage is the problem.

read several articles from others with same problem: seems cointrol board shuts it down if hunting too much. as voltage varies too much. some say could be slip rings dirty.

any ideas from others with same problem and what fixed gen?

now to figure out trouble shooting from what manuals i been able to down load.

oh i do smell propane while cranking. plugs have less than 100 hours.
any help will be apreciated much.

lpg regulator is on top of enngine. hoses from there go to carb.

now no spark. pulled plugs and start hit. no spark. will atenpt again and see if i grounded plugs wekk. plugs look good clean and slightly grey.
will check coil for voltage and resistance. will check points for operation before i take that apaRT.

Let me ask it another way:

Can you see the propane regulator or is it hidden IN the generator?

If external, is it installed vertically or horizontally?

this is a lpg generator . the regulator is just before the carb. right now just reading manuals and trouble shoting hints.

i plan to pull plugs and test them. if the spark is good i check the slip rings for crud. waiting for dry weather to do any thing physiaal.

thanks for advise.

Is this a LIQUID LP generator (i.e. the propane regulator is built into the generator) or is it a VAPOR LP generator (i.e. the propane regulator is external to the generator)?

Sounds like the unit would benefit from a good dose of maintenance - from top to bottom. Governors need maintenance and lubrication. If there are filter on the HP line to the mixer? Does the generator have a hat conversion or an IMCO LPG carburetor? Too rich a mixture can stall the engine. Check spark for a fat blue and not a weak yellow spark. This is all empty guesswork on my part.
