Norcold Ice Maker replacement

Ice maker in our 4 door Norcold quit working. Knew it was time to replace. I had been reading the posts about the Lowes ice maker replacement so I decided to drive down to Lowes & look at ALL the available ice makers.
The Lowes that I frequent has all their ice makers on the "back Shelf" so I was able to open each box and compare parts. I found that the Wirlpool EZ connect ice maker kit was the one I was looking for!
Most if not all icemakers now appear to have a short cable about 6" long with a plug on the end of it. The Whrilpool kit also has this pigtail BUT can simply be unplugged from the head by removing the cover over the timer and located a hole next to the plug. Using a screwdriver I was able to remove the plug by pressing a tab to release the plug w/o damage. Only other item that needed to be replaced was the small plastic box that the water pours into. I simply removed the timer by removing three screws. The timer assembly simply slides out. I then had to remove two screws that hold the timer housing to the ice tray. Once the housing is removed you can then remove the ejector arm that pushes the cubes out & replace the plastic cup the water pours into.

All in all it was perhaps a 10 or 15 minute process swapping parts. Very easy and worth the $100.00 saved!

The icemaker is Lowes item 654060. Should be priced around $99
The pigtail has to be removed and the small plastic box that the water pours into also needs to be swapped. This is an exact replacement other than the two parts.

Almost forgot. On the bottom backside of the cube try is a small stainless clip. On the commom lead it appears to have a fusable link. If the heater under the tray was to overheat the fusable link "should" let go & cut power to the heater/ice maker. This clip has to be "carefully removed" and clipped back onto the ice tray closer to the plug. Once you install the ice maker make sure this fusable link is under the clip up against the ice cube tray.
