1,440 watts. Do I hear one-hundred amperes current draw?

And a magic Chinese faux Tyco Bosch 40 amp relay with genuine almost 14 gauge oxygen free copper wire.

Thought you'd like a chuckle. This is worth one full guffaw.

If I had to guess I would say my puny light bar is equal to TWENTY new car blue HID headlights = ten cars on high beam. I used an 80 amp relay because I have those ridiculously hard to find .375" fast-on female connectors. Now CREE lamps are available in a 5" block 170 watts. I have purchased and sold 17 light bars from 140 to 500 watts.
OSRAM and BRIDGELUX light bars are near worthless. Only CREE puts out good brillance. The difference is startling watt for watt. OSRAM makes a good heater bar. Junk.

Well let's throw this into the gator pit: 18 watt 4" CREE lamps. 1.05 amperes @ 12.00 volts. ALL of these lamps operate on one or multiple 10-30 volt buck to 7.2vdc power supplies. Even the monsters. Many big bars have multiple buckers. They chop amperage to a point. No watts no lightee.

According to OHSA reg's those cattle are only supposed to be on the day shift unless equipped with Hi-Vis gear.

this seems closer to the truth

34" 180w

180W LED Light Bar
Lumens: 18000
Power Consumption:3W * 60 High Intensity LEDs
Amp Draw: 15A / 12V, 7.5A/24V
Input Voltage: 10-30V DC
Dimensions: 35 inch / 883.1 mm

Light Bars

claiming 100 lumens per watt ?

typical strip lighting is claimed 250~270 per watt

so the claim is NOT TOO outrageous, what ? it delivers i don't know

Bill,

I bought some smaller CREE flood lights and found that their ratings were based on 30V. So the amp draw and watts on the 1440W might be closer to 1440*12/30, still substantial. It will be interesting to see what you measure.

I found three vendors on ebay with the same lightbar as Mex posted. All of them include the light duty wiring harness and 40A relay. I sent all of them the following product question:

Your previous message
I need help please. The lightbar is rated at 1,440 watts which converts to a 120 amp power draw but it shows the kit coming with only a 40 amp relay and very small wiring? How does this work? The best I can figure is either the light really isn't 1,440 watts drawing 120 amps or the supplied wiring and relay is totally inadequate. I'd like to order one, but something isn't correct.

Thanks.

I received the following reply from autohere.

Friend, 1440W is the maximum power output, and the output can be affected by many factors, pls don't worry, the wiring can be connected to it and make it work well
thanks for your time and patience on it
have a nice day
best regards

So the best I can tell is the lightbar has a theoretical 1,440W output, but doesn't come anyplace close to that.

I sent another message to them asking: OK, thanks for the reply. If I have problems with the wiring harness or relay burning up will you replace them?

I'll be the others answer about the same. I recently bought a 700W lightbar that I'll hook up soon using my own wiring and large relay. I'm waiting to up my clamp on meter to see what the amp draw is.

This bar IS going to pull close to 100 amperes. My puny 300 watt bar lights cattle up at 500' distance. Even the Darwin grade asphalt tinted ones.

Mex, Without specs or a link hard to tell what you posted.

I'd guess 1440W incandescent equivalent or about 200W LED power consumption.

Plus it's likely at 30V so 3-4A at 12V, and yes about half the light at 12V.

So which do you think it is - It doesn't really put out anywhere near 1,440 watts which would be 120 amps, or they're supply a worthless relay and wiring harness?
