Rv security camera

Any recommendation on inexpensive security camera for outside a trailer? We will be visiting spots with no wifi so a camera that can operate with and w/o wifi would be great. A few other requirements

- Battery operated
- Outdoors
- Night vision
- Phone accessible if possible without wifi

My uses: security, determent, wildlife viewing around campsite.

I will point out that not "everyone" subscribes or "monitors" these threads..

Myself, I will randomly whenever I need a break from what I am doing will scroll through the forum at no preset time or interval.

One should not "assume"..

"Property" can be replaced, your life, not so much. 24/7 camera monitoring won't replace either but sure makes one "feel" secure even if it a false sense of security.

Another time i find the cameras useful is when i do a grocery stop. Usually park my truck and trailer far away in the parking lot. With lots of items that could easily be stolen out the pickup bed. I pay insurance on that stuff so that I don't have to worry or concern myself about protecting it 24/7.
I have cameras on my house that I may check at my leisure, but honestly I seldom/never check them. They may serve as a deterrent, but I see all the notifications and alerts as a nuisance and have them turned off.
I prefer peace and quiet to being on red/high alert.

It is a very sad state of affairs when someone feels so helpless/scared of their own shadows that they MUST have bunches of cameras running and connected to their lives 24/7/365 all set on high alert.

I am not sure why folks camp and shop in places that high in crime in the first place.. Camping is supposed to get you away from that..

If it hasn't been mentioned, what about a trail camera? Fasten it to a tree or pole or fashion a mount on your trailer. Many can do still or short video, images stored to an SD card. Pop the card out in the morning, plug it in a laptop and see who visited during the night.

That sounds nice. We camp in the desert and theft is a big issue. Was just on a forum last night recommending cameras to the lady who woke up to her gas cans stolen.

With social media i have seen stolen vehicles and trailers recovered in hours. I think the same could happen with theft. When someone catches video of a truck trying to steal something we could post to facebook and find them while they are still close. At our particular spot there are only 2 ways in and out. Would be very easy to wait on the dirt road for the suspicious vehicle to drive through.

Might be much better off to locate yourself in a "better neighborhood" if you think having a camera is going to change anything..

By the time you get that pix or video, the bandit is long gone.. You can take that pix or video to the Police but unless it is some major crime, I highly doubt they will do anything for a couple of stolen gas cans.. They have much better things to do than chase down the petty thieves.

Not to mention thieves can use stolen vehicles and/or stolen plates on vehicles giving you nothing more than a pix or video of a dead end.

Confronting a theft in progress is most likely going to result in less than stellar results on your end of things now days if you are not careful or prepared.

As I mentioned, far better to seek a better place to camp, especially if you KNOW there are a lot of thefts in the area around you. Another thing is to not "advertise" "valuables", Out of sight, out of mind.. Put gas cans and gens under cover, hide them, keep em out of plain sight.. Helps to keep casual theft down by reducing temptation if they can't see it..

Won't help much for more serious thieves that "case" you campsite but you can make that a bit less of a target if you at least lock things down or hide stuff.. Makes them spend more time cutting cables, locks or chains and breaking in to the storage area..

Now if you were wanting a camera to check out the natural wildlife around your camping site, that is a different thing.

For 20 bucks i think you should still give it a shot!! Its not as complicated as some might think. You can literally set the camera anywhere and use a cell phone charging battery to power it. Bottom of the cam is magnetic so you can stick it to a car roof or any piece of metal.

I have a camera setup over at the chicken coop. Bobcats have been coming around. There is no electricity over there but it doesnt matter. Just plug the camera into a USB battery and its good to go.

I can agree that I am over due for a camping trip. Hopefully I can get away in 2-3 weeks. When I do I won't have any cameras to capture the images of the boogeyman, Bigfoot, or Bambi. I'll let the RV.net security/nature team take care of monitoring the perimeter.;)

Maybe you are overdue for a camping trip? Seems like you are worried and conserned about a thread and topic that you claim does not worry or consern you.

One of the reasons I go camping is to escape the rat race.
Installing cameras amounts to bringing the worries and burdens of the rat race with me.
No thanks. I prefer to be worry free. I 'm not really concerned as to who or what maybe lurking outside of my RV.
I'm not naïve enough to believe bad guys don't exist. But if a bad guy shows up I'll deal with it then.
In the meantime I don't need to worry or create any imaginary scenarios that require a camera to give me peace of mind.
Currently I have no issues escaping the rat race no cameras required.
