Ryobi Generators Redux

Read all the posts I could find on Ryobi's RYI2200 generator but most were pretty old. I'm wondering how people feel about their purchase now that they have a few years of run time. I'm trying to decide whether to go with 2 2000 watt portables or get another Onan in our new 5er.

interesting thread. I was up in the rim country in AZ for a week prior to Easter. Most of the week with family and friends. last in came up with his new TT. First trip out and he was last as his fresh water tank dropped out as he was leavin his neighborhood. Called the Dealer and extended warranty co. Neither would come out to fix it. But that is another story.
My 96 TC has an Onan ulta lite onboard 130 hours. Started fine in Phoenix before I left. Got to Happy Jack in rim country altitude about 7000 ft. No interest in starting. Got back to Phoenix and fired right up again I run a CPAP at night so need to recharge batteries each day. My 7.3 powerstroke s a pretty big backup.
now last in gets there and sets up beside me. Brand new never out of the box Ryobi. Sets up camp out comes the Ryobi. Fires right up. He asked why my diesel was running. I explained my tale of woah and out came the extension cord. It spent the rest of the weekend powering both our units. $600.0 at Home Depot. His only complaint was no remote start.
Based on a 3day trial I would say it was a great value. or those that use generators the Ryobi is quite as a church mouse. For those that don't well could never be quite enough.

We have a Ryobi 2200 that we purchased in December for strictly emergency power. Sure enough we had a tree fall on a power line after a high gust of wind. The generator very well and used about 1 gal of fuel for 5 hours. I had a very happy DW as we full time and every winter we have volunteered in OR we have lost commercial power. This was the first winter we had a generator, I think I know how to make points.

I listened to a Ryobi at a dry campground a few weeks ago. It's not bad, but has that clinky sound like something being thrown around in there. I don't know if it was working hard.. didn't sound like it.

Check the prices on Honda's at this place.

Mayberrys.com and see what you think. You have to call them, because they are not allowed by Honda to publish any pricing online. Tell them you have a RV and need a 30 amp RV parallel adapter, they know what you are talking about, and can quote you a pair of 47 pound Honda 2000 generators that will run everything that the old Onan would - but at 50 Db.

AS for the Ryobi, it might work out well for you. Take a look at one of the older posts, of someone who was going to buy one, and send them a private message. Ask how it is working out for them. Can they run the A/C unit, or just the coffee maker? Can they connect two of the Ryobi's or just one to run the RV?

To send a private message, click on the dark blue name on any post, it will open a new window below their names, with 'view posts' and 'send private message' as two of the 4 options.

Good luck!

Fred.
