Water pump issue

It is an intermittent issue. After using water, the pump shuts off as normal. But other times every little while the pump starts and runs just a couple of seconds. If it starts it continues to do so. If I open a couple faucets and run it for a few seconds, it will stop after a try or two or so. Any ideas on what I need to do.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you all. I had looked for leaks. I did not now there is a check valve in the pump. I will check it if I can.

Assuming there are no line leaks, which would be evident by the short burst cycling never stopping, the problem is most likely the diaphragm in the pump, as suggested.

Not likely an owner fixable problem. Get a replacement pump now. When the current pump dies completely, at the worst possible time of course, you will be ready for it with a quick change.

Trace all the plumbing you can get to with the pump on.

In many ways a small leak is worse than a big leak because big leaks are obvious and typically found quickly. A slow drip can go on for a long time and cause damage.

This is one reason, we prefer to use the pump over connecting to city water. If we hear the pump cycling and no one is using water, it's time to find out what's wrong.

That sounds like the pump internal check valve (diaphragm) is not fully closing so pressure bleeds off until pump pressure switch closes...pump runs/pressure comes up/pump shuts off

Using the pump wil sometimes clear any debris etc on the check valve and allow it to reseat

OR it could be a LEAK.....minor but a LEAK
City water inlet check valve leaking....dripping
Water Heater T&P Relief Valve weeping...dripping
A small leak at ANY of the numerous fittings on Hot/Cold Plumbing lines

Place some TP at/around fittings and then check later for any wet TP
Is it time for your medication or mine?
