Finally got to see a EC 1165 and Host Mammoth in person last weekend. I had narrowed my choice down to these two. Both are impressive floor plans and very roomy for a truck camper. I am leaning towards the Host as I was a little more impressed with the materials used on the Host interior. I will probably order as I do not want a generator on board or a satellite reciever. Any suggestions on must have options?

My Honda 2000 ran my 11,000 btu a/c once. But I tried again later and it wouldn't. I don't know what I did right or wrong. Maybe I kicked up the thermostat too fast. This reminds me to try it again. I have 2 of the Hondas. Really haven't used them much yet. I did discover they fit very well in the rear floorboard of the truck. I also have an IPI extended run tank that feeds both gens and the wiring to parallel them. What I want is a storage box for the gas tank to put on a cargo rack. The tank will fit in the basement but I'm not too sure I want to do that. I may be over thinking it though.

The 2000 should run the air without a hitch assuming that you shut off the campers on board charger.

answer to billyray50 question its a generac impact 36LP. Maybe the newer ones are better but this one sure wasn't worth the 2700.00 extra.

That's the plan, mount it on the front hitch platform. I just a little concerned about noise run time with a propane generator. As far as a 9000 btu, I would worry that it may struggle in the middle of summer down here.

You could go with the 9000btu ac. It will run off the 2k honda. Thats what I did.

That's why I'm considering eu3000. I'm afraid it would not work well to run the larger A/C. The Yamaha 2400 is a option as it is rated at 2000 continuous watts versus 1600 watts for the eu2000.

The 3000 is so heavy to be lugging around. Check out the Yamaha 2800eu. It's only @ 60lbs. I think they are phasing them out but I believe still available. I saw one on eBay recently, new.

Mount it on the front hitch and you'll be able to just leave it there.....

Nothing special about the build other than no on board generator. I am going with a eu2000 or maybe a yamaha 2400 I believe and carry on a front hitch. Mainly to reduce noise and propane consumption(I live in Texas so A/C will be used quite a bit). Will the eu2000 carry a 11000 btu A/C? I would think weight distribution would be a little better also with the generator up front. I have not figured out how to clip the potential order sheet to this thread yet, when I do, I will post it. Had some great comments so far. Any help on how to post the order sheet would be appreciated.

Interesting, Texas heat and A/C.....I'd be having the built in genny installed. My PERSONAL choice. 🙂 🙂

I have the built in genny on mine and we use it quite a bit for pull off the road to eat lunch. Run the a/c for the dog while we eat at Cracker Barrell etc.... yes we also have a Honda 2000 that is handy for use during dry camping.

I'm not familiar with the Yamaha's but if I didn't have the built in, I'd get the Honda 3000 and mount it semi-permantenly on a platform on the front hitch.

GTO66, What brand of inboard generator do you have?

While I have a built in generator if I was ordering a new TC that's the first thing I would NOT order, my is hard to start sucks propane and is loud. That thing has caused me so much trouble I purchased a 2400 Yamaha which runs the a/c fine always starts and is quiet.

I also considered the eu3000, it's heavier but would definitely carry the A/C. It weighs about what an onan 2500 would weigh.

The 2400 might work. I have a 2800iu and it ran my fw's 13,500 easily and even ran my 15,000 but that was pushing it. I like the convenience of the on board for intermittent use and the wife really likes it, but plan to use my Yamaha on extended dry camping trips that the ac will need to run overnight.

So no built in generator? You must be adding solar and more batteries? Or carry a Honda 2000?

I love having a built in push button genny....can get the coffee pot going in the morning before going outside 🙂

My coffee's better than yours then because I perk mine. And whenever I pull the gen start cord outside I get to set up the B/Q for a nice steak dinner. 😛

About the triple slide... I think small is beautiful as long as it simpler, less weight, easier to take care of. I think a lot of folks get too involved in trying to own everything. Just my opinion as is my coffee.

Well enough solar power, batteries and inverter and he could make coffee from an electric coffee pot with no genny...hence the other questions too.

I'm just curious on his total build plans. 🙂
