2011 F550 - What's it worth

My father has a 2011 F550 4x4 crew cab RV hauler by Classy Chassis's. The truck is completely decked out with an aluminum RV bed, air ride, air hitch, etc. and has 40k miles. He's toying with the idea of moving away from RV'ing and he's asking me to help him sell his truck and trailer.

Does anyone have a good resource I can use to find a fair value for this truck. It was over $80k new and is in like new condition. I'm finding it hard to find comps on the internet. Most of the F550's I find are cab and chassis's and/or are fairly basically equipped for landscape or construction work.

Just curious why your image didn't show up, and/or if it will show up in this test repost of your quote. And on edit, I see now that it didn't. I wonder why? Mods? Do you not allow links of images anymore?

Anyway, before determining what a 2011-2013 F-550 with a diesel is worth, I as a buyer would simply google "2011 F-550 turbo failure".

After a few days slogging through all of that sobering user experience, then I'd google "2011 F550 dropped valves", and brace myself for a second round of sifting through former owner reports.

I think "nada" of that data is in NADA.

Another rare feature of the truck pictured is the 5th wheel hitch set up. Most of these I see are goose necks but they advertise as 5th wheel. This is a sweet truck and will go quick. Remember that you can always come down on price and when you get into low mileage rare trucks like this it is impossible for anybody to put a book value on it.

That sounds like an awesome price. Do you mind me asking what the sticker price was? My Excursion has a hair under 200k miles and my next vehicle will almost certainly be an F350. The pretty well loaded ones I've been looking at had sticker prices around $66k and up.

The trim levels don't go as high in the chassis cabs as they do the pickups. The air ride and dual fuel tanks on that truck brought the value up on yours.

You can get a new Class 5 with upfits for under $60k out the door, so $50k might be a little high. A top of the line fully optioned new one is about $80K OTD.

I had to look up what class 5 trucks were, but it appears they have 16k-19.5K GVWR's.....the GVWR of an F550 is 19.5k. The GCWR is over 30k I think.

I haven't shopped for an F550, but I know a new loaded F350 SRW is near $70k.....that does not include a 5th wheel hitch. I've got to think the F450's and F550's are more....and that's before upfitting with a custom built RV bed and extras such as electric steps, air horns, etc.

All that said, you are completely right about it being a 5 year old vehicle. I know pickups tend to hold their values pretty darn well....especially diesel 4x4's. Unfortunately, that doesn't help me much since this beast isn't exactly a pickup truck.....it's going to have a much smaller market.

I've bought and sold a lot of vehicles, but nothing quite as niche as this one. Any suggestions on where to advertise it? I like Autotrader, but I don't think that's the right direction for this beast. Do people sell tow vehicles on RVTrader?

Here are some better photos. Sorry there aren't any interior shots. It has nav, computer in the dash, leather/heated seats, etc.....pretty much everything. It also has a 50 gallon aux fuel tank for a total of around 80 gallons. There is a generator compartment, but they never had one installed. It has a rear air ride suspension similar to what you'd see in an ambulance (where you can dump the air and lower the vehicle several inches), and the hitch is a Hensley air ride (I think).

It's a heck of a vehicle for someone hauling a large 5th wheel. My parents have a 38' Landmark trailer and my dad was always worried about weights with his Chevy 1 ton SRW. My parents saw the truck at the Hershey RV show in 2012 and fell in love with it. I thought they were insane, but it made them comfortable so I guess it was worth it.

I think I need to call Classy Chassis to get a ballpark idea of it's worth. $50k sounds reasonable to me, but that's just a guess.

I ran the value for an 2011 F450 Lariat W/40K on nada, and it comes to $45,000 clean retail. I would say your truck is worth somewhere north of $50K. Just a guess on my part though. Is it lariat trim? Crew cab? 4X4? etc. I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of it just for fun if you can post one. Good luck at any rate.

Over $50k for a 5 year old truck with a first year engine and weak exhaust brake does not sound like a great deal, but like you said, you don't see them much and they are expensive new. If it really has air ride that will add to the value a little.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but then, most don't need that much truck and as rare as this one is, and at 40K miles I think it would sell.

Nice looking rig.
