2014 Ram 2500 diesel yearly maintenance cost

Hello,

I'm thinking of trading in my 2015 1500 Hemi for a 2014 2500 Diesel. I'm mainly getting it because I plan on upgrading to a 5th wheel soon. This truck would also be my daily driver. I'm concerned about the yearly maintenance costs moving to a diesel. I put on about 20,000 miles a year. What is a typical oil and filter change cost for the diesel? How often does this need to be done? Is there other yearly costs I need to be aware of? I do about 2 or 3 weeks towing the camper in the summer and my parents will be using the 5th to snowbird. I will be towing for them from Pennsylvania to Florida. Is a diesel worth the extra money compared to a gas? Any other additional information would be appreciated?

Completely agree! Also you can opt for the AISIN and factory rear air ride.

Here is my Son's 15 Limited in standard ride mode with a 2" front lift. Huge load in bed it still looks the same.

Agreed the 2500 with coils should ride better but with the 3500 you can adjust tire air pressure to load and have a great ride without having an alarm go off.

NICE, I had not noticed that. I guess I will now say I remove my air filter at my 15k oil change to inspect it, decide it needs to be replaced and do so. I feel better now, sure hope someone else does as well. :B

You are the resident expert that likes to go out of his way to tell people that they risk voiding their warranty if they deviate from factory recommendations so you should now this. You can always call that factory rep at Cummins you are always talking about.

Oops..... I was thinking how GM and Ford just add an overload spring to the heavy duty 3/4 ton to make it a 1 ton srw. I didn't realize Ram did things different. My main point, however, is that the diesel 3/4 ton is heavy and with a 10,000 lb gvwr it only has about 1700 lbs of payload. Load up a family and you can only pull a tent trailer before you go over the gvwr.

My experience, running synthetic oil in all my vehicles, bank on 3 times the cost of gas maintenance.

Oh, and it's a douchey thing to delete emissions on anything, especially a diesel, and doing it in the obsessive self belief that the person doing it is entitled to, is extra douchey. Rolling coal is the height of it.
And i really don't care what the defenders say, play by the same rules as a gasser, can't have everyone thinking they are special.

There is a lot of factory recommendations I don't follow which is obvious with the fact that I tuned my truck with 80k miles left on the factory powertrain warranty. However, I don't go around chastising others for not following factory recommendations or go out of my way to warn them of voiding their warranty every chance I get. I don't go around telling people what they should or shouldn't do with their money either. If someone want to spend his/her money on an intake then by all means. Have at it.

Don't even consider a 2500 diesel. It costs the same as a 3500 srw, rides identical to a 3500 SRW and by the time you load a few passengers in it there is no payload left for a trailer. Get a 3500 SRW.

Yes I do change my filter at 15K instead of 20 since it's easy to do ALL filters and out change at one time, my money and my method and proof below says it's just fine.

You do know that you can have a perfectly fine silicone levels on your UOA and still damage your engine from changing the filter too often, right?

If you are talking 94-98 RAM/Cummins I would agree. Newer RAM's heat up quickly even in cold weather.

I think I will just continue to drive and tow with ours. Left Chula Vista, Ca Saturday and we are in Northern Oregon this evening. Pulls at a combined 24,500 just fine. Got really good MPG today on 97 between Klamath Falls and Madras. Also in the central valley of California on 99. Chris
