2015 Expedition to have 3.5L EcoBoost V6

Yesterday (Feb. 18-2014), Ford announced it will build an Expedition with the 3.5L EcoBoost. CLICKY

This should make a nice SUV tow package. If the axles can be carried by an E Load Range tire, I guess it makes my hefty V-10 fuelish Excursion obsolete in just about every way now.

Yeah, I'm surprised it took this long for them to get it in the Expy. An EB Expy EL will certainly be in the test drive line up for our next family vehicle.

I am surprised that this hasn't been bigger news. The EB seems to be a good engine, certainly an improvement over the 5.4.

Meet the 2015 Ford Expedition, unveiled today at the Dallas auto show. Besides the freshened look, the big news is that Ford's full-size SUV now comes only with the F Series' 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine like its recently announced Lincoln Navigator sibling. At about 370 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, the twin-turbo V6 delivers more power than Ford's ancient 5.4-liter V8 (310 hp, 365 lb ft). The truck has a six-speed automatic transmission with manual mode.

There are two lengths: The standard 119-inch wheelbase is a little over 6 inches longer than the Explorer and has three-rows and up to 108.3 cubic feet of cargo space. The longer-wheelbase version sits on a 131-inch wheelbase, also has three rows of seats and up to 130.8 cubic feet of cargo space.

I dunno. An Expedition is a heavy duty light truck and I think the V 10 was a perfect engine for it. Well not perfect...I don't think Ford ever did a displacement on demand feature on the Triton V10 , which if they didn't...they should of done, IMO.

I would prefer to have an Expedition with the 6.8 liter V10 as opposed to a 3.5 liter turbo V6.

But then I'm an old guy ๐Ÿ˜‰ who comes from the era of you can't beat cubic inches...unless you have cubic money.

But on the other hand I do recall back in the 80's when the Buick GNX with it's turbocharged 3800cc , 90 degree Buick V6 was the fastest domestic car around...capable of spanking '80's high performance stock V8's...regularly.

I don't recall any problems with the old turbo Buick V6.

So maybe I'm just behind the times.

Probably, I prefer Jay Leno over Jimmy Fallon...and I still prefer the sound of a healthy high winding V8 to a high winding turbo V6.

I like the idea of having a V8, but with a displacement on demand feature like Mopar and GM.

The other thing about a turbo V6...I always thought a turbo charger was almost like a service item , that would have to be replaced as it couldn't be expected to last the life of the engine.

I also thought that you had to be careful, for example, let the engine idle before shutting it off to allow a turbo to slow down and cool off.

Are these things not the case anymore ?

The Excursion had receiver limitations too, and like the newer Suburban, it formed the rear impact structure so it couldn't be easily replaced. Plus the diesel Excursion sometimes had less payload than the Expedition, if you're one to stick to the stickers;)

Not even close. The receiver and payload are likely still the problems. It will be quick for up to about 6k dry TTs! If Ford had offered the Ecoboost in 2012, I might have it instead of my 3/4 ton Burb! I love that motor.
