A bit of a 911 here

You guys have been so helpful and supportive I can't thank you enough. I finally made the move to head south to North Carolina (for now) and I'm stuck at the Cabelas in Hamburg PA. High winds and gusts to 45mph. So far, I have not been successful in finding a place to pull in for the day to wait it out. Everything is closed for the season.
I do not have a generator. Or water as I couldn't do the weight.
I really need ideas.
The plan was to head 78east to 81 to 77, I wanted to avoid the cities, but now I'm thinking I should have stayed on 95....
SHOULD I BACKTRACK?

Thanks for checking in, Liza. So glad you made it safely. Charlotte is a great town.

If you have Internet service at your friend's, use the Search feature on this forum to find ideas for insulating your rig. Retro-fitting for Winter camping is both an art and a science.

Let us hear from you. Good luck & God-speed!

Glad you made it out. I need to venture to Hamburg and buy a new boat cover. Those winds were nasty 2 hours northeast deep in frozen PA lol. The winds destroyed my boat cover.

It is gorgeous here... coming down 81 was beautiful
Ya, it was cold on the Cape too.. spoke to my friends up there last night.
Now I just have to figure out the plan. I'm at a friends and plugged in, but no water or septic... THAT is getting old as I've been imposing on friends for showers and bathing in a bucket when need be since the beginning of the month

Just need to get this thin UN winterized. .. next hurdle in my world. I'm sure they won't mind grey water, but still not a solution.

Can't remember who commented on filling the tanks... my truck won't handle the weight and it and the camper are all I have left. Can't risk it

Statesville that's it! No accident, under construction and backed up for miles each direction. Even at 300 in the afternoon
Miserable ride but was too afraid to get off the highway lol

It's a good thing you moved from Cabala's when you did.. last night was the coldest night since last year they said... Although not as windy, so that probably equaled out.. glad your there and safe..

Love that area, was in Stanley NC last week at our office there . .

I made it to Charlotte ! Holy ****!
I pulled out of Cabelas at 0500 and pulled in here around 12 hours later. Fell immediately asleep.

Plugged in at a friends house, but aside for electric, no hookups. There is heat though and I can use their shower (desperate for that) and a huge fenced yard so the dog was able to stretch (he fell immediately to sleep too poor pup is so stressed)
Thank you all so much for you concern, I'm really grateful to all of you. Ideally, I would like to find a more permanent hookup but need to find work to justify it. Otherwise I'll have to pull out.

FYI route 77 was a nightmare took me over an hour to go 12 miles through Statesburg (I think)

Glad you are out of the frozen north, and have a safe harbor. Please stay put and recoup for a few days.

Liza,

Pls report in. We're concerned about you. K&I, Liza is a baker & you'll notice she keeps unconventional hours based upon the timestamps of her previous posts. I'm hoping she will reply in the early AM hours?

Liza, we will be glad to assist you but we need an update?

You outdo me ?

Good luck to you, young lady...you WILL make it.

I hope so! Not gutsy. . Desperate

Since the beginning of September, I lost my apartment (raising the rent and making it seasonal) my truck and my job. I had to buy another vehicle to get to work and then I didn't have enough money for first last and security on an apartment, so I bought the camper sight unseen so I had a place to live. I had a plan to go to Durango and stay with friends but that fell through and no plan b. I ended up losing my job (just not busy enough and I had given my notice thinking I was pulling out at the beginning of this month) then I hung around too long waiting to hear from a guy in VT where I thought I had a job. He's only got back to me Thursday. .. no
So here I am in Cabelas hoping to get further south and find seasonal work.

Thanks for chiming in Jim
Your sarcasm is definitely appreciated. I'm on my cell phone with limited access. And since my phone mentioned nothing of the snow and 45mph winds before I left mass... and since up until now, everyone has been so nice here, I thought I would ask.
Thank you for your message. I logged on early when I saw you replied. The phone had died and was charging in the truck.
Have a great day
