A C wasp screen

Does anyone manufacture a wasp screen to cover the vents on roof mounted air conditioners? If not, it seems like it would be easy enough for someone out there to manufacture one. I would like something like a flap on a miniblind that could be opened an closed with cords that hung down the side of the travel trailer. The cords could be secured in place with a bracket. I would be your first customer as I will not go up on a ladder to check my vents. I have put clear gorilla tape over my fridge and other vents that I can reach and have installed the mud dauber screens. I remove the tape

Four or five years ago wasps built a rather large nest on the condenser fan blade on my roof AC. It was so big that when I turned the AC on it shook the whole trailer. I cleaned it off and installed screen wire on the openings in the AC cover. I cut the pieces to fit the openings and attached them to the housing with silicon caulk. I have not had a wasp problem since.

I've never noticed any performance degradation with the AC after adding the window screen. There's not a ton of air being exchanged under the shroud really. If airflow is a concern then there are screens that advertise as better flowing. A lot of manufactures call them transparent or high visibility screens. The holes are made a little more precisely which allows more air to flow through them. Screens can get plugged up with dust and dirt after being up there for a while. Just hit them with the water hose to clean them off and keep the air flowing.

I intend to add high grade stainless screen to my AC shroud. I will probably remove some of the plastic grids to ensure it still gets good air flow. I think that screen will keep the wasps out and be easy to clean with a hose and nozzle from a distance.

I do not think that wasps in the AC is a big enough problem compared to insufficient air flow.

Since the AC companies try to build as small a units as possible for the top of the TT. Unrestricted air flow would be their first concern and screens clog easier than vent holes.

Any mechanical devise would add cost which is not likely in the RV industry, unless it is sold as an option.

Wasps cannot get into your rig from the A/C unless something is wrong.

When I take my travel trailer in for its yearly inspection, I will see if the service department will do this for me. I am a 64 year old female and I am not getting up on the roof. I broke every bone in my wrist about ten years ago when I fell of a ladder. I was trying to save money by repairing a piece of siding that had come loose. My neighbor's dog was chasing a chicken that had gotten in their yard and the commotion caused me to lose my balance. Thank you for your great suggestions. I wonder why they don't install a screen like you have suggested when they make the air conditioners.

Go down to the hardware store and get a roll of window screen material. Cut it into the shapes that you need then use exterior grade glue or caulking to attach the material to the inside of the shroud.

Just remove the cover and glue screen on the inside of the shroud if you want. As long as you keep it clean it should work fine.
