Accelerating my brake controller applies the trailer brakes

Has anyone ever seen this before...

I have an Hopkins Insight Flex controller (HM47297). It works as it should when applying the brakes, numbers as high as 45/55, however when I accelerate I see the controller showing an increase on the readout... 5/ 10/ 20/ 25/ and even have seen it get as high as 35. Question is, is the brakes actually being applied even though I'm not applying the brakes? Triple checked wiring: Module pack is pointed with wiring to the front of vehicle: Module pack is perfectly level north/south and east/west: Been speaking with Hopkins and they say they have never seen this before. Shamrocker21, same thing happened to our 2007 Tahoe. Replaced the brake pedal switch, cruise control started working.

Mboatwright, I am having the same issue in my 2009 Silverado with the Insight Controller. My cruise control also doesn't currently work. Did you ever figure out what the problem was?

Edit: my apologies, I see now where you mentioned the problem. Thank you for letting us know, now I can fix mine!

I have great news!

Replacing the brake switch corrected the problem, my Hopkins Brake Controller now works as it should.

Really appreciate everyone stepping up and making suggestions.

Conclusion, replacing brake/cruise control pedal switch stopped my trailer brakes from applying when accelerating.

I hope it fixes both problems. On a positive note at least your cruise control works again. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks Bucky for the response!

Yes, all brake lights work including the high mounted.

I'll be picking up a brake/cruise switch mid next week to repair the cruise control. I pulled the fuse to the cruise control and that made no difference. After that ill start testing down the line to the brakes on the TT to look for a short.

Update: I just installed the replacement brake switch and now the cruise control is back to working!!! I may go get the trailer just to test and see, one of those things I'm so hoping for I can't wait to find out if it repaired the problem.

I hope in many ways this post help's others with issues similar to the one I've been having.

I'll update once I've pulled the trailer again...

Yeah, if it is wired to the wrong brake switch, it may pullup through the cruise control, and cause both problems.

Great idea...! I'm going to get the trailer here in a bit, I will be able to do some testing then.

Thanks again everyone for your responses!

Before following the trailer, I suggest you ask her to follow the TV without the trailer and confirm the lights are working correctly. That would help to narrow down where the problem is starting.

We checked the Tow Vehicle and all lights are working as they should be. I will check the โ€œCruise Control Brake Switchโ€ later today, I feel that's the culprit. My Cruise Control comes on, it doesnโ€™t set... which leads me to believe the brake switch for it is broken and it thinks the brakes are pressed. That would/could send current back through the brake system telling the "Brake Controller" the brakes are pressed when they are not. I have read that Chevy Tahoeโ€™s are known for that issue.

Thanks for all the responses once again...
