Coleman NXT-200 grill issue to be aware of...

Tried to hook up my 20# LP tank to my new grill a few weekends ago with my 10' hose but it just wouldn't work. We were down to one disposable canister until a neighbor saw my frustration and gave us one of his. Thanks Army Dude! And by the way these big NXT grills use a lot more gas than the stoves do.

After getting home I tried my hose with my lantern and also my buddy heater and it worked just fine on both. So it must be the grill fitting. The stem poking out of the fitting didn't seem quite as long as on the lantern so I figured it must be the problem. Using a hollow nut driver I backed off the stem about a half a turn and tried it again. Success!!! So if you have one and it's not working on a big tank, check the depth if the plunger stem on the grill and see if it's a little short.

I tried to answer earlier but for some reason it didn't post. I'm the OP and what opnspaces said was right. Once the pin was a little longer, the plunger allowed the gas to flow. Been working fine ever since.

It might be as Drew510 said, or it could be as the OP (cyberiankhatru) found. For cyberiankhatru's fix look at the grill where you screw the hose on.
On that fitting there is a brass center pin that goes into the hose like on the picture below.


That center pin was not long enough to depress the plunger in the end of the hose to allow Propane flow. Since the pin is threaded into the fitting he used a tool to unscrew the pin 1/2 turn which made it stick out of the fitting enough to depress the plunger in the end of the hose.

Are you trying to connect to the propane port on your trailer or directly to the tank? If you are connecting to the port, the propane at that point is already low pressure. When you connect it to your Coleman stove, it has a regulator to reduce the pressure, so you are taking a low pressure source and making it even more low pressure, resulting in not enough flow for the grill. You either need to connect directly to the tank, adapt the grill by removing the regulator and replacing the fittings, or buying a purpose built RV grill.

Personally, I bought this grill at Costco and had my local BBQ shop make up the fittings to eliminate the regulator so I can connect it to the RV.

I know this is an old post, but I am having the same issue with my NXT200 grill. My adapter hose works fine and the grill works fine with the 1lb disposables - but when I try to connect my hose from my bulk propane tank it won't work. I think it is the stem length also. I am not sure what the OP actually did.

I have the same grill, and the same problem. Haven't gotten around to tinkering with it yet. Just bought the extension hose last trip, it wasn't working and needed to cook, so I switched to the disposable tanks. I'll have to go in the garage and try your suggestion.
