fiberglass repair / BONDO?

Will BONDO stick to fiberglass, I want to repair a small dent that is about 10" long and just deep enough to break the fiber glass. I want to make it flat and smooth as I will then add another "decal swoosh" over the repair to match the others on the back of the trailer, no one will ever know it was there.

I really dont want to deal with fiberglass if I don't have to.

Thanks

I tree jumped out and bit our RV on the side of the nose cone. Repair at CW in La Mirada was a beautiful job.

Oops , the only reason to use fabric is for strength ! If you are just filling a " dent " Bondo will do . If the glass is tore and flapping use cloth !

Bondo is fiberglass, polyester resin with cabosil as filler . Same prep , same resin , different filler !

I see that you are in Tampa; so you have a selection of marine supply stores to select from. Go to one of them and they will have the fiberglass repair materials that you need. If you have used Bondo you will have no problem with resin and gel coat.

Bondo is not a really good match for fiberglass. Quit going to the big box stores and go to a specialty shop that sells to body shops. There is a product, forget the name of it, that is a mixture of fiberglass resin and ground, chopped or shredded fiberglass. Pick one depending on the extent of the damage. It spreads much like bondo, is sandable and water proof. Bondo will actually absorb moisture if not properly sealed and will not bond to fiberglass as well.

Fiberglass isn't too hard to work with. If you've done alright with Bondo, you shouldn't have any problem using glass. Just follow the directions.

Thanks all... I didn't get as far as thinking about what type of paint. I will go to autozone and check out my choices. I guess since it is on the outdoor kitchen door, maybe it will see a little more "movement" than other areas. I am on the fence. I have never worked with fiberglass, but have used bondo many times. Seems like it is "6 to one, half dozen to another" hmmm...

Scuff sand and maybe apply some primer, and bondo should be fine. I'd prime and paint over it before putting the decal on. Spray can auto primer and paint should be fine. I'd go for it.

It will pop off pretty quickly without the proper prep, especially if there's a crack underneath. Your best bet is to stop-drill the crack, rough sand the areas around the crack for adhesion, apply some fiberglass mat with resin, let this dry then sand it to feather it in and make as smooth as possible. Then just use a filler putty to smooth out for priming and painting.

Bondo does stick to fiberglass with proper surface prep. But I would use fiberglass resin and filler if it were me.
